5 types of people should be careful when taking Euthyrox side effects

Euthyrox is a drug for treating thyroid diseases. Before taking this drug, you must understand its side effects and take it under the guidance of a doctor. For some people, medication must be used with caution, such as heart patients, some elderly people with poor physical fitness, women in menopause, and also diabetic patients or patients taking anticoagulants.

1. Heart disease patients

The heart diseases here refer to: coronary heart disease, arteriosclerosis, hypertension, heart failure, tachycardia, etc. When the dose of thyroid hormone drugs is too large, it will cause the heart rate to increase and blood pressure to rise, thereby increasing the burden on the heart and blood vessels. Therefore, heart disease patients should pay more attention to regular check-ups of thyroid function while taking medication to prevent drug overdose.

2. Elderly people

The elderly and those with long-term untreated hypothyroidism are particularly sensitive to thyroxine. A smaller drug dose will produce a more pronounced effect.

Therefore, when this group of people take thyroid hormone drugs, they should start with a small dose and increase the dose slowly. For example, ordinary people can start with 50 μg per day, while the elderly can start with 25 μg or even 12.5 μg per day.

3. Postmenopausal women

Postmenopausal women are already prone to osteoporosis, and large doses of thyroid hormone can make the situation worse. Therefore, postmenopausal women should have their thyroid function checked regularly while taking medication to prevent overdose.

Some thyroid cancer patients have to take large doses of thyroid hormone drugs after surgery to put their bodies in a state of subclinical hyperthyroidism to prevent recurrence and metastasis of thyroid cancer.

4. Diabetes patients

Thyroxine drugs may reduce the effectiveness of antidiabetic drugs.

Therefore, if diabetic patients need to take thyroxine, they should increase the frequency of blood sugar testing when they first start taking the medication or adjust the dosage to observe whether their blood sugar level rises. If necessary, the dosage of hypoglycemic drugs should be increased under the guidance of a doctor.

5. Patients taking anticoagulants

People with atrial fibrillation, pulmonary embolism, and deep vein thrombosis in the legs may use anticoagulant drugs.

If this group of people need to use thyroid hormone drugs at the same time, they must closely monitor changes in coagulation indicators. Because thyroxine can enhance the efficacy of anticoagulants and cause bleeding.

Once abnormal coagulation indicators are found, the dosage of anticoagulants should be adjusted in time.
