What should I do in the early stage of facial paralysis?

If initial facial paralysis can be discovered in time and intervention treatment measures can be taken in time, the treatment goal can be better achieved. These include surgical treatment, acupuncture treatment, or electrotherapy laser therapy. Of course, the treatment method must be determined according to the patient's facial paralysis condition.

1. Treatment policy

First treat the underlying disease. Non-surgical methods such as medication, massage, physical therapy, acupuncture, etc. are used to promote the disappearance of inflammation, reduction of edema and recovery of nerve function. Surgical treatment can be used if necessary.

2. Surgical treatment

If facial nerve paralysis has not recovered after 3 months of conservative treatment, and there is no response in the facial nerve conduction velocity and facial muscle electromyography examination, that is, no potential activity, surgical treatment can be used.

3. Other treatments

Principle: Promote early resolution of local inflammation and edema, and promote recovery of nerve function. 1. For peripheral facial nerve paralysis caused by facial neuritis, if it is a viral infection, antiviral, nerve nutrition, glucocorticoids, B vitamins and other drugs can be used. 2. To protect the exposed cornea and prevent conjunctivitis, you can use an eye mask, eye drops, eye ointment, etc.; 3. Massage: The patient can massage the facial muscles of facial paralysis with his hands in front of the mirror several times a day, each time for 5 to 10 minutes. 4. Physical therapy. Commonly used ones include ultrashort wave, low and medium frequency electrotherapy, laser, drug introduction, etc. 5. Acupuncture treatment.

4. Prognosis

The prognosis of this disease is generally good. Recovery usually begins 1 to 2 weeks after onset and is complete within 2 to 3 months. About 85% of patients can recover completely without any sequelae.
