The difference between conjunctivitis and pink eye, you need to know these common sense

Conjunctivitis and pink eye are both common eye diseases, especially pink eye, which many people have suffered from when they were young. But are conjunctivitis and pink eye the same disease? Simply put, pink eye is a type of acute conjunctivitis, and its infectiousness is also highly contagious.

1. Conjunctivitis is an acute inflammation of the conjunctiva. It is the most common eye disease in clinical ophthalmology. Common causes are viruses, bacteria, and allergic reactions. Common bacteria include Pneumococcus, Bacillus sp., H1N1 and Staphylococcus aureus. Common viruses include adenovirus type 8, type 19, type 37, type 3, and enterovirus type 70. Common allergens include pollen, contact lenses, various eye drops, cosmetic crystals, etc. Acute conjunctivitis, especially those caused by viruses or bacteria, can cause widespread epidemics and harm to society and individuals. It should be actively prevented and treated, but the prognosis is good and it does not pose a major threat to vision. It belongs to the category of "heavenly red eyes and violent fever" in traditional Chinese medicine.

2. Pink eye is a common epidemic acute conjunctivitis. Commonly known as "red eye", it can be caused by bacterial or viral infection. It is mainly transmitted through contact, that is, caused by contact with objects contaminated by the patient's eye secretions in public places. Allergic conjunctivitis is caused by the human body coming into contact with allergens, resulting in allergic symptoms in the eyes.

3. Conjunctivitis develops rapidly, spreads quickly, has severe symptoms, and is highly contagious. Allergic conjunctivitis is not contagious and its symptoms are not as severe as pink eye.

4. Symptoms of conjunctivitis include photophobia, tearing, foreign body sensation, stinging, and excessive secretions. Conjunctivitis caused by viruses may be accompanied by symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection such as headache, fever, nasal congestion, and enlarged and tender lymph nodes before the ear on the same side. The lesions may involve the cornea. The main clinical symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis are itching and tearing, often accompanied by allergic rhinitis and dermatitis. Especially during seasonal transitions or in spring, when the weather turns warmer.
