Why is the transaminase normal but the bilirubin high?

When our body's transaminase is normal but bilirubin is high, there is no big problem. However, if it remains too high and does not decrease, it should attract our attention and we should do a comprehensive check to see if there is any disease in the body. So what happens when the transaminase is too high? Let’s take a look together.

1. Viral hepatitis This is a common disease that causes high transaminase levels.

2. Many drugs and chemical agents can cause high levels of transaminase, but they will return to normal after stopping the medication.

3. Heart diseases, such as acute myocardial infarction, myocarditis, heart failure, etc., can cause high levels of transaminase.

4. Acute attacks of biliary diseases such as cholecystitis and cholelithiasis may cause fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, jaundice, etc., as well as elevated blood bilirubin and transaminase levels.

5. When liver cirrhosis and severe liver cirrhosis are active, elevated transaminases are usually present.

6. During pregnancy, the growth of the fetus will place a great burden on the pregnant woman's liver, resulting in high levels of transaminase.

7. Certain infectious diseases: influenza, measles, schistosomiasis, lobar pneumonia, tuberculosis and other diseases can also be the cause of elevated transaminase levels.

8. Non-pathological reasons: For example, strenuous exercise, excessive fatigue, eating greasy food before the examination, drinking, staying up late, etc., may cause mild high transaminase levels.

The dangers of elevated transaminases

1. The harm of high transaminase caused by viral hepatitis: High transaminase in chronic hepatitis B often indicates inflammatory activity in the liver and accompanied by liver damage, which requires timely treatment.

2. The hazards of high transaminase levels caused by cirrhosis and liver cancer: If the transaminase level of patients with cirrhosis, primary or metastatic liver cancer is too high, it often indicates that the disease has worsened or is in an unstable state. It is also very likely to cause complications of cirrhosis and liver cancer such as ascites and hepatic coma. If not treated in time, it may endanger the patient's life. Therefore, patients with cirrhosis and liver cancer who have elevated transaminase levels should not take it lightly. Timely treatment can greatly reduce the harm of the disease.
