Can ascites be cured? Several conventional treatment methods

When ascites occurs in the liver, the abdomen will become larger and cause abdominal distension, nausea or abdominal pain. In severe cases, the patient will suffer from ascites for a long time. Generally, the treatment of the primary disease is mainly through surgical resection, radiotherapy or interventional treatment. It is necessary to combine diet and bed rest to adjust the recovery of ascites. Patients should pay attention to bed rest and not stand or sit for a long time.

Hepatic ascites treatment

When we suffer from a disease, we will definitely think about how to treat the disease. So what is the treatment for a disease like ascites? If you don’t know, let’s take a look.

1. Treatment of primary disease

The treatment plan for ascites should depend on the underlying disease. For example, tuberculous peritonitis should be treated with anti-tuberculosis treatment; purulent peritonitis caused by perforation of abdominal organs should be treated with surgical treatment; and tumor ascites should be treated with surgical resection, chemotherapy, radiotherapy or interventional treatment according to the condition.

2. Basic treatment

Including bed rest and diet therapy. Ascites indicates the severity of the disease. Regardless of the cause of ascites, basic treatment cannot be ignored.

3. Bed rest

Patients with ascites must rest in bed more often. Because bed rest can have a good recovery effect on the patient's heart, liver, and kidneys, and it can also help the disappearance of ascites.

4. Diet therapy

Rich nutrition and sufficient calories are necessary for recovery from illness. The content of the supplement should vary according to the disease. For example, protein and vitamins should be supplemented in case of hypoproteinemia. For patients with severe renal and liver failure, protein should be limited and carbohydrates should be the main source. For hepatic ascites, there should be enough calories, ensuring that the daily calorie intake is above 2000Kcal, with carbohydrates as the main source, and protein at 1-1.2g/kg per day. In case of hepatic encephalopathy, protein should be limited to about 0.5g/kg per day.
