What to do if wisdom tooth extraction causes inflammation, swelling and pain

Basically, all adults will grow wisdom teeth, and many people will feel pain when they do so. This is because when wisdom teeth grow, bacteria grow in the gums, causing gum inflammation. The pain of wisdom teeth can affect a person's appetite, sleep, and mood, and even have an impact on a person's health, so wisdom teeth should be extracted when they become inflamed. However, some people will experience inflamed, swollen and painful gums after having their wisdom teeth removed. So what should they do at this time?

(1) First and foremost, after tooth extraction, it is important to stay calm and listen carefully to the doctor's instructions.

(2) It is best not to eat within two hours. Eat soft food on the same day, preferably warm or cold, and chew on the other side.

(3) Do not rinse your mouth or spit excessively on the same day to prevent bleeding or infection. Do not repeatedly suck and spit out blood clots due to the bloody taste in your mouth, which will prevent the wound from healing.

(4) Do not brush your teeth on that day. About 24 hours after tooth extraction, local fibroblasts extend from the alveolar bone wall to the blood clot and gradually organize the blood clot to make it firm and solid. If you are in a hurry to rinse your mouth and brush your teeth, you may rinse or brush away the blood clot and cause further bleeding, or cause an empty tooth socket and lead to unbearable pain "dry socket", which will prolong the healing time. You should also be careful not to lick the wound with your tongue frequently or suck it hard to prevent wound damage and infection, or cause the blood clots on the wound to fall off, affecting the coagulation process and causing continuous bleeding.

(5) It is normal to have blood in your saliva within one week after wisdom tooth extraction. If the bleeding does not stop, go to the hospital for examination.

(6) Try to exercise and talk as little as possible on the day of wisdom tooth extraction. Avoid smoking, drinking and spicy food.

(7) If there are stitches in the mouth when wisdom teeth are extracted, they can usually be removed after 4 to 5 days.

(8) After having your wisdom teeth removed, you should bite the sterilized cotton ball or gauze on the wound to compress the wound and help stop the bleeding. You should hold on for 60 minutes before spitting it out. Do not bite too tightly or for too long. This is because it takes half an hour for the blood in the wound to form a blood clot after tooth extraction. If the cotton ball or gauze is spit out prematurely, bleeding is likely to occur.

(9) Generally, wisdom teeth extraction does not require the use of conventional oral antibiotics. A slight fever is normal after a difficult tooth extraction. If you have wisdom teeth removed or have had severe trauma to a tooth, you must take antibiotics orally. If symptoms worsen, you can receive antibiotics intravenously.

(10) It is recommended to use a pure natural mouthwash - rinse tea on the day of wisdom tooth extraction. Hold 5 ml of the original liquid in your mouth for five minutes and then spit it out. After spitting it out, there is no need to clean your mouth with clean water. You can repeat this several times a day and continue to use it to rinse your mouth from the next day onwards. This can reduce postoperative reactions.

(11) Dentures should be placed in time 2 to 3 months after tooth extraction (except impacted teeth) to avoid the adjacent teeth from falling over.

(12) After tooth extraction, avoid touching the wound with your fingers, because your fingers are stained with a large number of pathogenic microorganisms, which can easily cause infection of the tooth extraction wound and also destroy the blood clot that has formed.
