What are the symptoms of chronic enteritis?

Many people initially suffer from acute enteritis, but because they ignore the condition or do not treat it in time, it will gradually develop into chronic enteritis. After enteritis occurs, you need to be vigilant and choose standardized treatment methods, but you need to understand the symptoms before treating the disease. Most people with chronic enteritis will have diarrhea and abdominal pain, which can last about 4 to 5 times a day, and most of the stools are watery.

The age of chronic enteritis patients is mostly between 50 and 59 years old, with women slightly more than men. The onset is usually acute. Those with mild symptoms only have mild diarrhea, while those with severe symptoms may present with an explosive onset and progress rapidly.

(1) Diarrhea is the main symptom, which usually occurs within 4 to 10 days of taking antibiotics, within 1 to 2 weeks after stopping the medication, or 5 to 20 days after surgery. The degree and frequency of diarrhea vary. In mild cases, the patient may have 2 to 3 bowel movements a day and may recover on his own after stopping antibiotics. In severe cases, there is a lot of diarrhea, with more than 30 bowel movements a day. Sometimes the diarrhea can last for 4 to 5 weeks. In a few cases, plaque-like pseudomembranes may be discharged, and bloody stools are rare.

(B) Abdominal pain is a common symptom. Sometimes it is very severe and may be accompanied by abdominal distension, nausea, and vomiting, so that it may be misdiagnosed as acute abdomen, surgical anastomotic leakage, etc.

(III) Manifestations of toxemia include tachycardia, fever, delirium, and disorientation. In severe cases, hypotension, shock, severe dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, metabolic acidosis, oliguria, and even acute renal failure often occur.
