What is the role of vitamin D

What people probably know more about the role of vitamin D is its use in treating rickets. In fact, in addition to treating rickets, vitamin D can also reduce the incidence of some diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, schizophrenia and so on.

The role of vitamin D cannot be underestimated:

1. Heart disease: Vitamin D can reduce insulin resistance, which is one of the main factors leading to heart disease. Lung disease: Lung tissue undergoes repair and "remodeling" throughout a person's life. Since vitamins affect the growth of multiple cells, they may play a role in the lung repair process. Cancer (including breast, colon, ovarian and prostate cancers): Vitamin D is thought to play a key role in regulating cell reproduction - a regulatory mechanism that is lacking in cancer patients. Therefore, by preventing cells from over-reproducing, vitamin D may protect against certain cancers.

2. Diabetes: In type 1 diabetes, the immune system kills the body's own cells. Scientists believe that vitamin D may act as an immunosuppressant. They think it might prevent the immune system from overreacting.

3. Schizophrenia: The risk of developing schizophrenia is probably related to sunlight exposure in the first few months of birth. Lack of sunlight may lead to vitamin D deficiency. Scientists believe this can alter the development of the fetal brain.

4. Multiple sclerosis: Vitamin D deficiency limits the body's production of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, a hormonal form of vitamin D3 that regulates the immune system. Its deficiency may increase the risk of developing multiple sclerosis.

5. Rickets and osteoporosis : Vitamin D can strengthen bones and prevent rickets in children and osteoporosis in the elderly.
