What causes toothache? You’ll know at a glance!

With the improvement of living and eating standards, there are endless new foods. Many people suddenly eat ice or hot food when it is hot, which can easily cause sudden toothache. Everyone's physique is different, and the quality of teeth is also different. Suddenly chewing hard objects can also cause toothache. So what is the cause of toothache?

Many people have symptoms of toothache. More serious patients will experience toothache when eating cold, hot, sour or sweet foods. According to an expert from the Department of Stomatology at Shenzhen Shuguang Hospital, toothache is an allergic symptom with many causes, mainly the following aspects.

What causes toothache?

1. Tooth wear and tear leading to toothache: wear and tear of the neck of the teeth, improper brushing methods, especially horizontal brushing, plus the use of hard-bristled toothbrushes and coarse-grained tooth powder, decades of accumulated skills. In daily outpatient clinics, more than 80% of patients have more or less wear and tear of the neck of the teeth. Although the causes of tooth decay are different from those of cavities, the mechanism that causes soreness is the same.

2. Toothache caused by enamel damage: When enamel is damaged and dentin is exposed, it will be subjected to temperature (cold, hot), chemical (acid, alkali) and mechanical (brushing teeth, biting hard objects) stimulation, causing abnormal soreness and pain. This sensitivity is often caused by abrasion, wedge-shaped defects, acid erosion or trauma, which causes enamel defects and dentin exposure. This situation can be completely improved by using dental gold.

3. Toothache caused by external stimulation: When teeth encounter external stimulation (temperature, mechanical, chemical stimulation), they will feel sore. If the condition is not good, the teeth should be covered with crowns to protect them.

4. Oral diseases lead to toothache: Long-term gingivitis or periodontal disease causes gum recession or loose teeth. After gum recession, the neck of the teeth is more sensitive and there will be discomfort from hot and cold stimulation. Periodontal disease causes loose teeth and the teeth will feel weak and sore when biting. In addition, some people will experience temporary sensitivity after teeth cleaning or periodontal surgery. This is because the dentin is exposed after root planing surgery. However, the latter is mostly temporary and most of them will disappear on their own as long as the oral cavity is kept clean.
