What is the fast treatment for ADHD?

If a child suffers from ADHD, it will have a great impact on the child. Children with ADHD usually have symptoms such as hyperactivity, lack of concentration, and behavioral defects. There are many reasons for the baby's ADHD, but it must be treated actively. During the treatment, it is usually necessary to find out the cause first, and then treat it in a targeted manner. How to treat ADHD?

How to treat ADHD?

1. Psychotherapy. There are two main approaches: behavioral therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. The patient has poor relationships with peers, uses aggressive language and behavior toward others, and has poor self-control. Behavioral therapy utilizes the principle of operant conditioning to promptly provide positive or negative reinforcement to the patient's behavior, enabling the patient to learn appropriate social skills and replace inappropriate behavior patterns with new and effective behaviors.

2. Drug treatment. Medications can improve attention deficits, reduce activity levels, improve academic performance to some extent, and improve relationships with family members in the short term. Central nervous system stimulants are generally used as the first-line treatment drugs. Currently, the main drugs used in China are methylphenidate and its controlled-release tablets. Methylphenidate, at low doses, helps improve attention, while at high doses it can improve symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity and reduce behavioral problems.

3. Behavior management and education. Teachers and parents need to carry out effective behavior management and psychological education based on the characteristics of the patients, avoid discrimination, corporal punishment or other rough educational methods, and appropriately use praise and encouragement to improve the patients' self-confidence and self-consciousness. The child's seat can be arranged near the teacher to reduce the child's distraction during class, and the course arrangement should take into account giving the patient sufficient time for activities.

4. Education and training for parents. Provide parents with a good supportive environment, let them learn skills to solve family problems, learn to work with their children to develop clear reward and punishment agreements, effectively avoid contradictions and conflicts with their children, master the correct use of positive reinforcement methods to encourage children's good behavior, and use punishment methods to eliminate children's bad behavior.

Causes of ADHD in Children

1. Genetics. Family studies, twin studies and foster child studies support that genetic factors are an important risk factor for ADHD in children, with an average heritability of approximately 76%.

2. Neurotransmitters. Neurobiochemical and psychopharmacological studies have found that there is an imbalance in neurochemical transmitters in the brain, such as low dopamine and norepinephrine function and decreased 5-HT function in the patient's blood and urine.

3. Neuroanatomy and neurophysiology. Structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed abnormal development of the patient's frontal lobe and asymmetry of the rostral end of the bilateral caudate nucleus. Functional MRI also found that ADHD patients have brain function defects, such as hypofunction of the frontal lobe and abnormal activation of functions in the frontal lobe, especially the prefrontal lobe, basal ganglia, anterior cingulate cortex, cerebellum and other parts.
