What are the treatments for vulvar herpes?

Vulvar herpes is a simple herpes in the vulva caused by the herpes virus. Patients will experience burning pain in the skin and mucous membranes, and clusters of blisters. The course of the disease is generally short and prone to relapse. Traditional Chinese medicine can be used for symptomatic treatment to achieve early recovery.

1. Syndrome differentiation and prescription selection

1. Internal treatment

1. Damp-heat in liver and gallbladder

Treatment method: clear away heat, promote dampness and detoxify.

Prescription: Longdan Xiegan Decoction with modifications. Gentiana 12g, Plantago 10g, Alisma 10g, Akebia 6g, Isatis 15g, Gardenia 10g, Coix 15g, Scutellaria 10g, Rehmannia glutinosa 15g, Licorice 10g. If the burning and stinging pain is severe, add 15g of Yuanhu and 15g of Chishao. If the herpes erosion and exudation are severe, add 15g of Purslane and 15g of Sophora flavescens. If the herpes has scabs and pus, add 15g of Shuanghua, 15g of Forsythia and 15g of Rubia cordifolia.

2. Yin deficiency and internal heat

Treatment method: Nourish yin, clear heat and detoxify.

Prescription: Liuwei Dihuang Pills with added ingredients. 20g of raw rehmannia, 15g of yam, 15g of cornus fruit, 15g of poria, 15g of moutan bark, 10g of jinxie, 15g of isatis root, 15g of lithospermum officinale, 20g of coix seed, 20g of purslane. In case of weak constitution and qi, add 20g of codonopsis pilosula and 30g of astragalus. If the herpes has healed but the pain persists for a long time, add 3g of whole scorpion and 1 centipede.

(II) External treatment

1. For the affected area with red blisters that have not yet broken, apply Jin Huang San mixed with honey (2500g each of rhubarb, turmeric, phellodendron, angelica, 1000g each of arisaema, tangerine peel, atractylodes, magnolia bark, licorice, 500g of radix trichosanthis, grind them into fine powder)

2. If the herpes has broken and there is erosion and waterlogging, use 15g of Phellodendron chinense and 10g of Radix Sanguisorbae Officinalis, decoct them in water to extract the juice and apply cold compress to the affected area.

2. Special prescriptions and proven recipes

1. Boil 30-60g of Isatis root in water to extract the juice and drink it as tea.

2. Boil 15g of Purslane and 10g of Alum in water to obtain a concentrated juice, and apply it to the affected area, 2 to 3 times a day, each time for 15 minutes.

2. Local therapy

1. Keep the affected area dry and clean to prevent secondary bacterial infection.

2. Clean the vulvar lesions with 1/5000 potassium permanganate sitz bath or hydrogen peroxide, and apply gentian violet or antibiotic ointment.
