Why does tongue ulcer cause bad breath? What should I eat?

Bad breath is an oral problem that is very bothersome to others. Many people think that it is just because of eating smelly food. In fact, bad breath and tongue ulcers are also largely caused by internal reasons such as the intestines. Therefore, if this kind of problem occurs, that is, ulcers appear on the tongue or accompanied by bad breath, you must look for the cause in your own body.

1. Why does tongue ulcer cause bad breath?

1.1 Oral diseases. People with oral diseases such as caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, oral mucositis, tooth decay, and periodontal disease. Bad breath is caused by the growth of oral microorganisms, especially anaerobic bacteria, which decompose to produce sulfides, giving off a putrid smell and causing bad breath. In addition, for people with good oral hygiene and periodontal health, bad breath mainly comes from the back of the tongue. Studies have shown that the degree of bad breath is positively correlated with the presence, thickness and range of tongue coating.

1.2 Gastrointestinal diseases. Diseases such as peptic ulcer, chronic gastritis, functional dyspepsia, etc. may be accompanied by bad breath. Recently, we have also found that people infected with Helicobacter pylori, which causes many gastric diseases, have a significantly higher incidence of bad breath than those who are not infected. After the eradication of Helicobacter pylori, the symptoms of bad breath are significantly alleviated. The reason may be that Helicobacter pylori infection directly produces sulfides, causing bad breath.

1.3 People who smoke, drink alcohol, drink coffee, often eat spicy foods such as onions, garlic, leeks, or are addicted to smelly foods such as stinky tofu and rotten eggs are also prone to bad breath.

1.4 Dieting to lose weight, or being unable to eat due to illness, or the reduced salivary gland function of the elderly, or endocrine disorders in women during menstruation, which leads to reduced salivary gland secretion, is conducive to the growth of anaerobic bacteria, thus causing bad breath.

1.5 Girls have bad breath. Some women in adolescence have ovarian dysfunction and low sex hormone levels, which reduces the resistance of their oral tissues and makes them more susceptible to infection by bacteria, resulting in bad breath.

1.6 Drugs that can reduce saliva secretion, such as certain sedatives, antihypertensive drugs, atropine-type drugs, diuretics, and traditional Chinese medicines with warming and tonic effects.

2. What to eat for oral ulcers and bad breath
