How to treat retroperitoneal neurogenic tumors

The harm caused by retroperitoneal neurogenic tumors is relatively serious, so patients should adhere to scientific treatment methods and abide by certain treatment principles. Surgical treatment is a relatively common treatment for malignant tumors. At the same time, after surgery, they should also pay attention to chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

1. Surgical principles: Surgical resection is the main treatment method for most retroperitoneal tumors. Many retroperitoneal tumors can be completely removed surgically to achieve the goal of cure. Therefore, we should have a positive attitude towards surgery. Whether some retroperitoneal tumors can be removed can only be determined after intraoperative exploration.

2. Because retroperitoneal tumors have rich sources, a wide variety, and complex anatomy, adequate preparation should be made before surgery.

3. Surgical resection should be complete and thorough to reduce the recurrence rate.

4. For patients with invasion of adjacent organs or recurrence after surgery, combined resection of the tumor and affected organs can be performed. There was a report of a patient with recurrent liposarcoma who underwent a combined resection of the tumor, left kidney, spleen, left colon, and part of the small intestine in the third surgery.

5. When the tumor invades surrounding organs and larger blood vessels and cannot be ideally removed, palliative resection or tumor reduction resection can be performed.

6. After resection of malignant tumors, comprehensive therapies such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and/or immunotherapy should be used.

7. Chemotherapy: Primary retroperitoneal malignant lymphoma is very sensitive to chemotherapy. Once diagnosed, chemotherapy should be the first choice (see Chapter 5 of Part 7, Malignant Lymphoma), which can achieve a higher complete remission rate.

8. Radiotherapy: It has certain therapeutic effect on primary undifferentiated tumors and malignant lymphomas.

9. Closely observe vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.

10. Fluid replacement and blood transfusion maintain water and electrolyte balance and hemodynamic stability.

11. Keep the drainage tube open, closely observe the properties of the drainage, and record the daily drainage volume.
