Ground glass nodules are just an imaging concept in medicine. This phenomenon is mainly observed on CT images as an image with a higher density than the surrounding lung tissue, but the degree of increase cannot cover the vascular and bronchial images. This image is similar to frosted glass, so it is called ground glass. Solid lung nodules with a higher density than ground glass nodules are called ground glass nodules. If malignant nodules are found in this ground glass image, they are called ground glass nodules. Ground glass nodules are small lung cancers, which means early lung cancer.
Ground glass nodules can be divided into pure ground glass nodules and mixed ground glass nodules according to whether they have substantial components. It should be emphasized here that ground glass nodules are not a disease diagnosis, but a description of the impact. Specifically, it refers to the image of ground glass shadow nodules shown by CT scan. Although ground glass nodules can be shown in many early lung cancers, ground glass nodules may also be shown in inflammation, infection, fibrosis and precancerous lesions if they are not typical adenomatous hyperplasia. Therefore, do not simply regard ground glass nodules as lung cancer.
In recent years, many small lung cancers with ground glass nodules as the main manifestation have been found in many outpatient clinics or inpatient departments. They are generally about 1 cm or 2 cm in size. This type of small ground glass lung cancer has a low degree of malignancy and is mostly carcinoma in situ, microinvasive adenocarcinoma or invasive adenocarcinoma. Among them, invasive adenocarcinoma, except for mixed papillary acinar, mainly grows on the wall.
Small lung cancers with ground glass nodules are generally less malignant, and most patients can be cured through surgery. However, to detect small lung cancers with ground glass nodules, regular physical examinations are necessary, and it is difficult to detect such small lung cancers with ordinary chest X-rays, so a chest CT scan is still needed to confirm the diagnosis.
