Is glacial acetic acid poisonous?

People may not have heard of glacial acetic acid in their daily lives, so they will suspect that if this substance is ingested by people, it will definitely cause great harm or even poisoning. In fact, this is not the case. Glacial acetic acid can be used as a seasoning. The ingredients of some seasonings we ingest in our lives include glacial acetic acid.

Acetic acid, also known as acetic acid (36%--38%) and glacial acetic acid (98%), has the chemical formula CH3COOH. It is an organic monobasic acid and the main component of edible vinegar. Pure anhydrous acetic acid (glacial acetic acid) is a colorless hygroscopic solid with a freezing point of 16.6°C (62°F). It forms colorless crystals after solidification. Its aqueous solution is weakly acidic and highly corrosive, and its vapor is irritating to the eyes and nose.

Acetic acid can be used as an acidity regulator, acidulant, pickling agent, flavor enhancer, spice, etc. It is also a very good antimicrobial agent, primarily due to its ability to lower the pH below that required for optimal growth of microorganisms. Acetic acid is the earliest and most widely used acidulant in my country. It is mainly used in compound seasonings, wax preparation, canned food, cheese, jelly, etc.

When used in seasonings, acetic acid can be diluted with water to a 4%~5% solution and then added to various seasonings. Beverages made with vinegar as the acidifier and supplemented with pure natural nutritional health products are called international third-generation beverages.

The AOPlus process improves the stability of the rhodium catalyst by adding high concentrations of inorganic iodine (mainly lithium iodide). After adding lithium iodide and methyl iodide, the water concentration in the reactor is reduced to 4% to 5%, but the carbonylation reaction rate remains at a very high level, thereby greatly reducing the separation cost of the device. The change in catalyst composition enables the reactor to operate at low water concentration (4% to 5%), thereby improving the carbonylation reaction yield and separation and purification capabilities.

use

Acetic acid is a bulk chemical product and one of the most important organic acids. It can be mainly used to produce vinyl acetate, acetic anhydride, acetate and cellulose acetate, etc. Polyvinyl acetate can be used to prepare films and adhesives, and is also the raw material for the synthetic fiber vinylon. Cellulose acetate can be used to make rayon and movie film. Acetate is an excellent solvent and is widely used in the paint industry. Acetic acid can also be used to synthesize acetic anhydride, diethyl malonate, ethyl acetoacetate, halogenated acetic acid, etc. It can also be used to manufacture drugs such as aspirin and to produce acetates, etc. It is widely used in pesticides, medicines and dyes, photographic chemical manufacturing, textile printing and dyeing, and rubber industries.

In the food industry, acetic acid is used as an acidulant, flavor enhancer and fragrance. When making edible vinegar, acetic acid is diluted with water to a concentration of 4-5%, and various flavoring agents are added to obtain edible vinegar. As an acidulant, it can be appropriately diluted when used and can be used to mix beverages, canned foods, such as making canned tomatoes, asparagus, baby food, sardines, squid, etc. It can also be used to make soft drinks, cold drinks, candies, baked goods, puddings, gelatin sugar, condiments, etc.

Acetic acid acts as a preservative. 1.5% has a significant antibacterial effect. Within the 3% range, the green and black discoloration of the flesh caused by mildew can be avoided.
