What are the symptoms of early pulpitis?

What are the symptoms of early pulpitis?

The early symptoms of pulpitis will show severe spontaneous or paroxysmal pain, but this pain will relieve itself after a short period of time, especially at night, when the pain will be more obvious.

1. Severe spontaneous, paroxysmal toothache. Spontaneous pain refers to severe tooth pain that occurs without any stimulation. This pain will subside on its own after a while.

2. The pain cannot be localized. The pain can radiate to the upper and lower teeth and ear and temporal area on the same side, and the patient often cannot clearly point out the location of the affected tooth. When a child feels pain in the upper teeth, the affected tooth may be in the lower jaw. When a child feels pain in the front teeth, it may actually be that the back teeth are damaged. If the child has multiple bad teeth in his mouth, it is necessary to carefully distinguish which tooth has pulpitis, because the treatment of caries and pulpitis are completely different.

3. The pain often worsens at night. This may be related to the increased pressure in the pulp cavity when lying on the back.

4. Temperature stimulation can aggravate pain. In the early stages, exposure to cold or heat can aggravate the pain, but when the pulp is festering or necrotic, cold water in the mouth can relieve the pain. This may be because the pulp festering and necrosis produces gas, which expands when heated and increases pressure, and contracts when cooled and reduces pressure.

5. Deeper cavities may be seen during the examination, and the teeth may be painful when probed with a probe. Or conditions such as deformed central cusp and deformed lingual fossa that may lead to pulpitis may be found.
