What are the symptoms of pulpitis?

Pulpitis is a relatively common oral problem, and the correct treatment and solution of these oral diseases cannot be ignored. After all, it has a relatively large impact on our oral health. The symptoms of acute pulpitis are severe pain, especially when eating hot or cold foods, the pain will be aggravated.

1. Pulpitis

The main symptom of acute pulpitis (including acute exacerbation of chronic pulpitis) is severe pain, which has typical clinical characteristics.

Severe pain occurs suddenly without any external stimulation. The pain has a process of persistence and relief, so it has the characteristics of paroxysmal attacks or paroxysmal aggravation. Secondly, it is night pain. Patients often have difficulty falling asleep due to toothache. Thirdly, temperature stimulation will aggravate the pain. Eating hot or cold foods can stimulate pain or make the pain more severe, and patients often dare not brush their teeth with cold water. In the late stage of pulpitis, it also manifests as "hot pain, cold relief". Heat stimulation will produce severe pain, and patients often temporarily relieve the pain by gargling with cold water. When the pain occurs, most patients cannot clearly point out the location of the affected tooth, and the pain often radiates to the upper and lower teeth or head and face on the same side of the affected tooth.

2. Chronic pulpitis

(1) Chronic closed pulpitis has no obvious spontaneous pain or occasional dull pain. However, almost all patients have a long history of pain due to cold or heat stimulation.

(2) Chronic ulcerative pulpitis usually does not cause obvious spontaneous pain, but patients often complain of severe pain when food gets stuck in the affected tooth cavity. Another typical symptom is severe pain when cold or hot stimuli irritate the affected tooth.

(3) Chronic hyperplastic pulpitis generally does not cause spontaneous pain. Sometimes patients may complain of pain in the affected tooth or bleeding when eating. Therefore, they dare not chew food with the affected side for a long time.
