What causes back pain in reflux esophagitis?

After reflux esophagitis occurs, the body will have some obvious abnormal sensations, such as indigestion, abdominal pain, etc. Some patients may also experience heartburn, and some may even feel pain in the sternum and back, which are also adverse phenomena caused by the disease.

1. Reflux esophagitis is the reflux of gastric acid. The earliest symptom is "vomiting acid gas", but it is easily ignored. Many people only notice their problems after they feel discomfort in their chest. In addition to the common problem of indigestion, many patients will experience heartburn, and some people even feel pain behind the sternum, which they often think is back pain or heart problem. This is why people usually complain of back pain but cannot find the pain point. In fact, you just need to take some medicine to treat stomach problems and you will get better.

2. Reflux esophagitis is mainly caused by various factors that weaken the function of the lower esophageal sphincter, including vomiting, subtotal esophagectomy, gastric retention, duodenal ulcer, smoking, heavy drinking or taking atropine-type drugs and vagotomy. Therefore, in the prevention and treatment of this disease, it is necessary to actively eliminate the factors that cause the weakening of the lower esophageal sphincter, and then use drugs to control the symptoms to achieve "treating both the symptoms and the root cause."

3. Most patients (85%-90%) have achieved good results by paying attention to diet adjustment, weight loss, raising the head of the bed and adding medication. In particular, the use of proton pump inhibitors in recent years has opened up a new approach to the treatment of this disease. It is more effective when used in combination with anti-reflux drugs. For a small number of patients who have not responded to active medical treatment, surgical fundoplication may be considered.
