What should I do if my nails grow into my flesh? How to deal with nails growing into my flesh

Many people have experienced this situation, where the nail grows into the flesh and causes pain and discomfort. If not handled properly, it may cause bacterial infection of the nails, leading to paronychia, and in severe cases, purulent inflammation. The symptoms are redness, swelling and pain on one side of the nail, followed by the spread of inflammation and suppuration. What should we do if we encounter this situation?

1. When there is only local redness and swelling, soak the affected fingers (toes) in hot water 2-3 times a day for 20 minutes each time, and then apply 2% iodine tincture or iodine to the affected area for disinfection.

2. Apply ichthyol ointment externally and take antibacterial drugs orally.

3. If pus appears under the nail groove, it should be drained by incision. If a subungual abscess has formed, the affected nail should be removed in time and the dressing should be changed on time until it heals.

4. People suffering from paronychia should wear loose, soft shoes or slippers to reduce friction and relieve pain.

5. Use clean or special scissors to cut off nails and flesh thorns. If some nails are embedded in the nail bed, you should be more careful to avoid damage and infection.

6. Once there is a puncture or foreign object inserted, the affected area should be disinfected immediately and the foreign object should be removed. Especially tiny splinters can easily cause infection if not removed in time.
