Is eczema and dry skin getting better or worse?

Many people have sensitive skin, and if the body cannot adapt to the external environment. The skin will show various symptoms, and eczema and dry skin are one of them. Especially in winter, when the climate is relatively dry, the skin will show symptoms of peeling and tightness, and in severe cases, some small red spots will appear. The main reason is due to severe dehydration of the skin. You can apply body lotion after taking a shower to relieve it, or you can choose suitable medicines for treatment.

The scientific name of dry eczema is seborrheic eczema, also known as fissure eczema. It is mainly caused by loss of skin moisture, reduced sebum secretion, dryness, fine cracks in the epidermis and stratum corneum, and a light red skin color. The red color is more obvious in the cracks, similar to "broken porcelain". It can occur in many parts of the body, but is more common in the limbs, especially the anterior tibia in the elderly. This disease is more common in winter, when the air is dry, secretions decrease, and it is triggered by frequent washing with hot water.

Causes

It is mainly related to skin moisture loss, reduced sebum secretion or dysfunction. Seen in patients with ichthyosis or the elderly. Excessive bathing, use of strong alkaline soaps, facial cleansers or bathing in water that is too hot can also cause artificial skin degreasing.

Clinical manifestations

This disease is more common in winter and is more likely to occur in the elderly and those who bathe excessively. It often occurs on the extensor side of the calf and hands.

Those caused by reduced sebaceous gland function usually develop slowly. Itching usually starts after bathing at around age 50 and gradually worsens with age. Many cases of acute dermatitis caused by excessive washing or the use of degreasers are actually irritant contact dermatitis. This disease can also be seen in cancer patients, those using diuretics or type II histamine blockers, and those infected with HIV.

diagnosis

The diagnosis is not difficult based on the characteristic clinical manifestations.

treat

First eliminate the cause. Treat with an emollient. For example, white vaseline, vitamin E cream, mineral oil, etc. Can be used 1 to 2 times daily. Use body oil right after bathing. To keep the moisture in the skin from evaporating. Since the skin barrier function has been significantly damaged, it is best not to use topical corticosteroid preparations.
