What is bone hyperplasia? You need to know the symptoms and signs

Bone hyperplasia is a common symptom among middle-aged and elderly people, especially in the cervical vertebrae, lumbar vertebrae, and knee joints. The main symptoms are pain, numbness, swelling, and stiffness. Especially in the middle-aged and elderly stages, calcium supplements should be taken in time to prevent the occurrence of bone hyperplasia.

1. Cervical vertebrae bone hyperplasia:

Clinical manifestations: stiffness in the neck, limited movement, snapping sounds when the neck moves, pain often radiating to the shoulders and upper limbs, numbness in the hands and fingers, and an electric shock-like sensation that may be aggravated by neck movement. Different lesions involve different parts of the body and result in different symptoms, which may lead to paralysis in the late stage.

Severe cervical spondylosis can also cause cervical spondylosis hypertension, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, gastritis, angina pectoris, dysphagia, etc.

2. Lumbar vertebrae bone hyperplasia:

The most common sites of occurrence are L3 and L4. Clinically, symptoms such as soreness, distension, stiffness and fatigue in the lumbar spine and soft tissues, and even limited bending, may occur. If the adjacent nerve roots are compressed, corresponding symptoms may occur, including local pain, stiffness, posterior root neuralgia, numbness, etc. Compression of the sciatic nerve may cause sciatica, with severe numbness, burning pain, cramping and stringy pain in the affected limb, radiating to the entire lower limb.

3. Knee joint bone hyperplasia:

In the early stage, the knee pain is not serious for those with slow onset, but there is persistent dull pain. The pain worsens when the temperature drops, which is related to climate change. The knee pain and stiffness occur when starting to move after getting up in the morning, walking for a long time, doing strenuous exercise, or standing up from sitting for a long time. The pain gets better after a little activity. Going up and down stairs is difficult, the knee joints are weak when going downstairs, and it is easy to fall. There is pain and stiffness when squatting. In severe cases, the joints are sore and swollen, and the patient walks with a limp. Those with combined rheumatic diseases have red, swollen, deformed, and limited functions of the joints. There are popping sounds when extending and flexing. Some patients can see joint effusion, and there is obvious local swelling and compression.
