Why does my stomach hurt? What should I do if my stomach hurts?

Everyone should have experienced stomach pain, but there are many reasons for stomach pain. It may be caused by mild constipation, but it may also be caused by gastrointestinal tumors. Therefore, we should not take stomach pain lightly, especially if the pain is severe and lasts for a long time. We must go to the hospital to find out the cause.

1. Causes of stomach pain

1. Man-made refers to the damage caused by attacks by others.

2. Natural refers to a series of reasons caused by improper diet, clothing, sleep, etc.

There are dozens of causes of abdominal pain, involving various aspects such as internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology; blindly relieving pain is incorrect and sometimes even dangerous.

2. Symptoms of stomach pain

1. The nature and degree of abdominal pain: The nature of abdominal pain is related to the organ where the lesion is located and the nature of the lesion. For example, colic often indicates obstruction of hollow organs; bloating and pain are often caused by increased tension in the visceral capsule, traction of the mesentery, or gas expansion of hollow organs. The degree of pain is sometimes consistent with the severity of the lesion, but due to individual differences, sometimes the degree of pain does not reflect the extent of the lesion.

2. Location of abdominal pain: The surface location of abdominal pain is often related to the segmental distribution of the spinal cord. Usually, the location of the pain is where the lesion is located. However, some lesions cause pain that radiates to a fixed area. For example, acute cholecystitis can radiate to the right scapula and back, and the pain caused by appendicitis can be transferred from the umbilicus to the right lower abdomen.

3. Associated symptoms: Abdominal pain accompanied by fever indicates inflammation, connective tissue disease, malignant tumor, etc.; abdominal pain accompanied by vomiting indicates esophageal, stomach or bile duct disease; large amount of vomiting indicates gastrointestinal obstruction; diarrhea indicates intestinal inflammation, malabsorption, and pancreatic disease; shock and anemia indicate rupture of abdominal organs (such as liver or spleen rupture or ectopic pregnancy rupture), myocardial infarction, and pneumonia may also be accompanied by abdominal pain and shock, so you should be particularly vigilant.

3. What to do if you have a stomachache

1. Stomach pain and diarrhea. One of the main culprits causing stomach pain and diarrhea is food poisoning, and the other is acclimatization. If diarrhea strikes during an important meeting or your sleep is interrupted by frequent diarrhea, you may want to take the gastrointestinal medicine Peto-Bismo. If you are traveling overseas, you may want to take Imodium, which slows the rate at which fluid moves through your intestines.

2. Abdominal pain or diarrhea caused by dysmenorrhea is very normal. To relieve menstrual cramps and reduce menstrual bleeding, you can take Advil or ibuprofen 12 to 24 hours before your period. Then take the prescribed dosage every 3-6 hours for 3 consecutive days.

3. Abdominal pain and bloating symptoms. Many factors, including menstruation and constipation, can cause bloating. It is recommended to eat less salt because it will retain water in the body, avoid eating foods that are easy to make people fart, such as beans, cabbage, cauliflower, or drink more yogurt containing active probiotics to help regulate your own digestive system.

4. Abdominal pain caused by gastroesophageal reflux. Reflux occurs when acid from the stomach moves into the esophagus and throat. It often occurs at night. Unlike heartburn, reflux can cause pain in the chest and may be accompanied by a sore throat or cough. It is recommended to reduce the amount of alcohol and smoking, avoid eating before going to bed, or take the antacid Prilosec (omeprazole).
