Does swollen eyes have anything to do with kidneys?

Kidneys are the metabolic organs of human beings. If there is a problem with the kidneys, there will also be problems with human metabolism. Eye swelling is a very common phenomenon in life. There are usually many reasons for eye swelling, but most people usually do not associate eye swelling with kidneys. Eye swelling is generally divided into physiological and pathological. Pathological eye swelling needs to be actively treated. Is eye swelling related to kidneys?

Is there any relationship between eye swelling and kidney?

Swollen eyes are related to the kidneys. However, there may be other reasons for swollen eyes.

Allergic eyelid edema

Both eyes have recurrent edema for unknown reasons, and urine routine, renal function, and thyroid function tests are all normal. This may be related to contact with allergens. Of course, finding the allergens and avoiding contact will be the best treatment. However, in most cases, no clear allergens can be found. Oral anti-allergic drugs can be used for treatment, and topical anti-allergic drugs can be used.

Thyroid related diseases

For eyelid myxedema, thyroid function tests can clarify the cause and treat the primary disease.

Tear gland diseases

In the case of chronic inflammation of the lacrimal gland, eyelid edema is S-shaped. Chronic inflammation is often more obvious on the upper outer part of the eyelids of both eyes, and a lump can be felt there. A tissue biopsy is required to confirm the diagnosis. The lacrimal gland tumor should be completely removed surgically.

In addition, there are many systemic diseases that can manifest as swollen eyelids, such as heart failure, hypoproteinemia, etc. No matter what the cause is, it is best to go to the hospital for relevant examinations and treatments.

Excessive salt intake

The human body should be in a state of electrolyte balance. If too much salt is consumed, it will cause excessive sodium ions in the body. When they cannot be excreted, the body will absorb more water to help maintain the balance, thus causing edema.

Menstrual cycle factors

One week or half a month before menstruation, the body's qi and blood are weak and cannot transport water normally, resulting in water retention in the body, so edema will occur. The location and degree of edema vary from person to person, and it is more obvious above the eyelids. When menstruation comes, the edema and other symptoms will gradually subside. In addition, edema is also prone to occur during pregnancy.

Sleeping position reasons

Drinking too much water before going to bed, sleeping in an improper posture, or using a pillow that is too low will cause body fluids to accumulate in the eyes while you sleep, causing the water in the body to flow back and form swollen eyes.
