Is acupuncture useful for long-term vascular headaches?

Acupuncture is the essence of traditional Chinese medicine and a skill that has been passed down for thousands of years. Acupuncture is very effective in treating internal diseases of the body, such as headaches, etc. Vascular headaches can make patients feel extremely painful when they develop, and this disease is very difficult to treat, with almost no cure. So, is acupuncture useful for long-term vascular headaches?

1. The hazards of vascular headache:

Vascular headaches are mild to moderate in intensity and rarely keep people in bed or interfere with their daily lives. Some patients may have persistent headaches for years, and some patients' symptoms can even be traced back 10-20 years. The patient may have headaches all day long, with headaches lasting longer than pain-free time. Headaches are often aggravated by factors such as excitement, anger, insomnia, anxiety or depression.

2. The significance and methods of acupuncture treatment:

Acupuncture treatment for neuralgic headaches is fast-acting, has no adverse reactions, is easily accepted by patients, and is superior to general drug treatments.

Acupoints: Fengchi, Xingjian, Heyan, Xuanlu, Baihui, Taixi, Hegu, Xuehai, Shuegu, Taiyang, Touwei, Sizhukong

Acupoint selection based on syndrome differentiation: add Taichong and Xingjian for liver-yang hyperactivity type; add Sanyinjiao for qi and blood deficiency type; add Geshu for blood stasis type; add Taixi for kidney deficiency type.

3. Specific measures of acupuncture:

The patient sits or lies on his side, and the above 6 to 7 acupoints are selected. The skin is routinely disinfected and the needle is inserted quickly until a local heaviness, soreness and swelling are felt. After the needle is inserted and qi is obtained, the method of equal tonification and equal drainage is used. When acupuncture is performed at Fengchi, the needle tip should be inserted 0.8-1 inch toward the tip of the nose. After the qi is felt, try to transmit the needle sensation to the head. The needle is left in for 30-40 minutes, once a day, and 10 times constitutes a course of treatment.

Neuralgic headaches are caused by tense and contracted head muscles, which make the head feel tight or compressed, heavy, and often throbbing and pulling pains. They are aggravated by excessive smoking and drinking. This is mostly caused by irregular lifestyle, excessive smoking and drinking, and lack of sleep.
