Can I wear colored contact lenses if I have trachoma

Trachoma is a common eye infection, which is often caused by infection with some microorganisms, Chlamydia trachomatis. It usually causes patients to be afraid of light, tear, itchy and have a foreign body sensation. If patients with trachoma wear contact lenses, it is easy to cause friction and aggravate the symptoms, so it is not suitable.

1. Trachoma is a common infectious eye disease, a chronic infectious conjunctivitis and keratitis caused by the microorganism Chlamydia trachomatis. Because it forms a rough and uneven appearance on the surface of the conjunctiva, resembling sand grains, it is called trachoma. In the early stages of trachoma infection, trachoma causes varying degrees of eye discomfort such as photophobia, tearing, itching, foreign body sensation, increased secretions, etc., as well as conjunctival blood vessel congestion, papillary hyperplasia, and follicle formation. In severe cases, the cornea may be invaded and corneal pannus may occur. When there are active pannus on the cornea, irritation symptoms become significant and vision becomes impaired.

2. Trachoma itself makes the eyes very uncomfortable, and the eyes' resistance is relatively weak at this time. If you wear contact lenses at the same time, the contact lenses or friction of the cornea will cause the eyes to feel more irritated, which will increase the irritation to the eyes and reduce the effectiveness of trachoma treatment. Contact lenses are attached to the cornea. Over time, the eyes will feel lack of oxygen. At this time, the eyes are also vulnerable to trachoma. The double stimulation will cause the eye disease to worsen and the eyes will recover more slowly. Trachoma patients need a period of time during treatment, during which they will use eye drops and other medicines. It is not suitable to wear contact lenses during these times.

3. Contact lenses can be worn during the inactive stage of trachoma. Severe trachoma is rare nowadays. Most patients who are thought to have trachoma actually have blepharoconjunctivitis, which is caused by air pollution, water pollution and poor hygiene habits. Therefore, patients who do not have obvious conjunctival congestion and no obvious follicular and papillary hyperplasia during eyelid examination can wear contact lenses.

4. Love of beauty is a woman's nature. Colored contact lenses are now widely used. However, due to the different quality of colored contact lenses and the unhygienic use of colored contact lenses by some people, it is easy to induce some eye diseases and cause trachoma. These are situations that everyone should pay attention to prevent.
