What glasses should I wear for astigmatism

What glasses should I wear for astigmatism

Astigmatism is mainly caused by not paying attention to the use of the eyes in daily life, which causes the cornea of the human body to bend. After the light enters the inside of the eye, it cannot be focused and astigmatism occurs. If you have both myopia and astigmatism, then when getting glasses, you first need to go to the hospital for a detailed examination to find out the degree of your astigmatism. This way, the degree of the glasses you get will be more accurate and you can better avoid further deterioration of the astigmatism problem.

1. Where to get astigmatism glasses?

If you are wearing glasses for the first time, it is recommended to go to the hospital. In any case, the optical glasses equipment in regular hospitals is relatively advanced. If you go to the hospital to get glasses for the first time, they will give you a complete degree test and flash test, of course, as well as a series of factors such as pupil distance. In this case, the glasses worn in the hospital can easily adapt to your eyes, which is relatively easy for people who are getting glasses for the first time.

If you go to an eyewear store to get a pair of glasses, many people will worry that the glasses they wear are not accurate in degree, or that they have not been tested for astigmatism and other factors. In this case, wearing uncomfortable glasses may cause adverse changes to your eyeballs. This possibility exists. If you are wearing glasses for the first time, even if you do not go to the hospital, it is recommended that you go to a more formal eyewear store to buy them.

Secondly, if you have more experience in buying glasses and your prescription has not increased and you just want to change your glasses, you can also go to an optical shop to get them.

2. How to wear astigmatism glasses

For patients with mild astigmatism, it generally does not affect vision, so there is no need to wear glasses for correction. However, one thing to note is that if you experience visual fatigue and blurred vision due to astigmatism, no matter how low the astigmatism is, you must use appropriate lens correction to avoid it developing into a high degree of astigmatism.

Generally speaking, if the positive axis myopic astigmatism is within 3.00D, as long as the patient is a teenager or an exotropia patient, appropriate lens correction must be given. Or for children, adolescents, and patients with exotropia with positive axis hyperopic astigmatism of more than 3.00D, the correction with lenses can be appropriately reduced by 0.50~1.00D.

If the patient is wearing glasses for the first time and the astigmatism is significantly high, the astigmatism can be reduced according to the spherical-cylindrical equivalence rule. That is, add 1/4 of the original cylindrical lens power to the spherical lens as a new spherical lens, and 1/2 of the original cylindrical lens power to make a new cylindrical lens, and the axial direction remains unchanged. In this way, the wearer will not feel symptoms such as strong foreign body sensation, dizziness, and eye discomfort.

3. Things to note when wearing astigmatism glasses

First of all, you should pay attention to keeping the eye test report to ensure better accurate testing of the glasses you wear. Only by fitting correct myopia glasses can you better control the worsening of myopia. In addition, when getting glasses and having your eyes tested, you should be careful that the time for the test should not be too short, it should be more than 20 minutes, so that you can detect astigmatism problems in time. Therefore, astigmatism is not easy to be detected. If the time for the test is too short, it will easily delay the correction of astigmatism.

In addition, when wearing glasses for myopia, you must go through the eye examination by a professional optician and choose good quality glasses. Because, if the thickness of the glasses lenses is uneven or has defects, it is easy to cause the lens installation gap to be too large, resulting in deviation of the optical center, inducing dizziness and blurred vision, which can easily aggravate the degree of myopia.
