Treatment methods for otitis media, what patients should know

Otitis media and mastoiditis are ear diseases that we often see in daily life. They can cause great harm to people’s daily lives and even cause deafness. Once the disease occurs, it should be treated actively. What are the treatments for otitis media and mastoiditis? If you want to know more, please follow me.

1. The traditional treatment for otitis media is drug therapy: general drug therapy mainly achieves the purpose of reducing perforation through antibacterial, pus drainage and swelling reduction, but simple drug therapy is difficult to achieve the healing of perforation, and it is difficult to effectively treat otitis media, and it is very easy to relapse. Tympanoplasty is an effective treatment for all ear diseases and complications: by removing all cavities where diseased tissue hides in the middle ear and surrounding bones, it minimizes the residual lesions and fully restores the continuity of the ossicular chain.

2. Dietary precautions for otitis media: You should avoid spicy and irritating foods, such as ginger, pepper, wine, mutton, chili, etc.; do not take hot tonic medicines, such as ginseng, cinnamon, aconite, deer antler, bull whip, and tonic paste. Otitis media is by no means a minor illness and should be taken seriously by patients. If you suffer from chronic otitis media, you should pay attention to taking medication to ensure that the pus is discharged in time. If conditions permit, surgical treatment is best.

3. Ear pain, itching, foreign body sensation, or even suppuration may indicate otitis media. If you have otitis media, you must seek timely treatment. Failure to do so may result in hearing loss.

4. Precautions for local medication.

① Before using the medicine, clean the pus in the external auditory canal and middle ear cavity. You can use 3% hydrogen peroxide or boric acid water for cleaning, then wipe it clean with a cotton swab or use an aspirator to suck out the pus before dripping the medicine.

When the amount is small, boric acid alcohol can be used

② When the amount of pus is large, use water; when the amount is small, use boric acid alcohol.

5. Ear drop method: The patient sits or lies down with the affected ear facing upwards. Gently pull the auricle backward and upward, and drip 3 to 4 drops of medicine into the external auditory canal. Then press the tragus lightly with your fingers several times to encourage the medicine to flow into the middle ear through the perforation of the eardrum. You can change your position after a few minutes. Note that the ear drops should be as close to body temperature as possible to avoid causing dizziness.
