What are the treatments for keratitis

Keratitis is a very common eye inflammation clinically. Keratitis is generally closely related to viral infection. At the same time, the treatment methods for keratitis are relatively diverse. The treatment methods for keratitis with different symptoms are also different. For mild cases, you can try eye drops.

1. Rinse

If there is a lot of secretion, the conjunctival sac can be flushed 3 or more times a day with normal saline or 3% boric acid solution. It not only reduces the factors that spread the infection, but also ensures that the concentration of local medicine does not decrease.

2. Mydriasis

It can reduce iris irritation, prevent posterior synechiae, and put the eye in a resting state, which is conducive to ulcer healing. Atropine is commonly used in the form of 0.25% to 2% solution or ointment, which is dripped or applied daily (be careful to press on the lacrimal sac to prevent excessive absorption of the solution by the mucous membrane and poisoning).

3. Bandaging and dressing

(1) In order to stop the eyeball from rotating and promote the early healing of the ulcer, bandaging is necessary. This treatment is particularly useful in winter. Because it not only prevents the eyes from getting cold, but also plays a protective role.

(2) If there is secretion in the conjunctival sac, it should not be bandaged and can be replaced with a Bühler eye patch or black glasses. Furthermore, if the ulcer is about to rupture, or is about to bulge during the scarring stage, it should be applied with a compression bandage every day. If this is not possible during the day, it should be applied at night while sleeping to avoid adverse consequences.

4. Antimicrobial therapy

Select effective drugs for local eye drop treatment against pathogenic microorganisms. For severe corneal ulcers, antibiotics can be injected under the conjunctiva. For ulcers that are more severe but the results of bacterial culture and drug sensitivity tests are not yet known, sensitive antibiotics can be used.
