Is it better to have a side-suction or top-suction range hood?

The range hood is a must-have in the kitchen, as it can help remove kitchen fumes. There are many types of range hoods, and many people don't know whether a side-suction or a top-suction range hood is better. For this type of question, you must choose a range hood based on the suction rate, for example, the side-suction range hood has a relatively higher suction rate.

1. Side suction cleaning is troublesome

The side-suction range hood is relatively closer to the stove. It changes the traditional range hood design and the way of extracting oil fumes. It can suck away the oil fumes generated from the side when cooking, basically achieving the effect of removing oil fumes. This type of range hood adopts side air intake and oil fume separation technology, which makes the oil fume extraction rate as high as 99%. Compared with the ceiling suction type, the smoke exhaust effect is more ideal, there is no sense of oppression, no worries about head collision or oil dripping, the smoke is absorbed more thoroughly, and it is environmentally friendly and energy-saving. Although the side-suction type is very effective in absorbing oil smoke, there are few styles, and the smoke collecting cavity is often not able to be formed in one piece, so it is more troublesome to clean and the noise is relatively loud.

2. Traditional top suction

Most traditional range hoods are "ceiling-type", that is, the range hood is installed above the stove, and the fumes are extracted through the exhaust fan above. According to statistics, most families use this type of range hood. Top-suction range hoods come in three types: thin, deep, and semi-deep, which are in between. Top-suction range hoods come in a variety of shapes and are easier to clean than side-suction range hoods. However, the top suction type also has many inconveniences such as bumping your head and oil dripping when cooking, and its oil fume absorption effect is not as good as the side suction type.

3. Targeted selection

In general, side-suction and ceiling-suction range hoods each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Whether a side-suction or ceiling-suction range hood is better depends on the layout of the kitchen, the decoration style of the kitchen, the design of the cabinets and other aspects. Therefore, there is no absolute good or bad, and ultimately you still have to choose a range hood that suits the decoration of your home.
