What are the symptoms of acute gastroenteritis

Patients with acute gastroenteritis often show symptoms of upper abdominal pain. Some patients experience severe pain, accompanied by nausea and vomiting. In addition, repeated vomiting and diarrhea can cause excessive water loss, resulting in dehydration and a drop in blood pressure.

One of the symptoms of acute gastritis: upper abdominal pain. Tenderness in the left midsection or around the umbilicus, with intermittent aggravation or persistent dull pain, accompanied by abdominal fullness and discomfort. A few patients experience severe pain.

The second symptom of acute gastritis: nausea and vomiting. The vomitus is undigested food, and the patient feels comfortable after vomiting. Some patients even vomit yellow bile or stomach acid.

The third symptom of acute gastritis: diarrhea. People with concomitant enteritis may experience diarrhea, which stops as the stomach symptoms improve. The stools may be loose or watery.

The fourth symptom of acute gastritis: dehydration. Due to repeated vomiting and diarrhea, excessive water loss may cause symptoms such as poor skin elasticity, sunken eyeballs, thirst, and oliguria. In severe cases, blood pressure may drop and the limbs may become cold.

The fifth symptom of acute gastritis: vomiting blood and bloody stool. A small number of patients have blood-streaked or coffee-colored vomit, black stools or positive fecal occult blood test. This indicates bleeding in the gastric mucosa.
