How to clean a household range hood

In fact, cleaning the range hoods at home is a very big project, so many people are reluctant to clean their range hoods, and they always don’t clean them for a long time. In this way, there will be a lot of oil stains in their range hoods and they will not be cleaned. The range hood will even feel particularly greasy when you touch it, which is very harmful to the range hood itself.

1. Cleaning the range hood: prevention is more important than cure

Just like when it comes to health, prevention is always more important than cure, the best way to clean your range hood is also prevention.

Before starting a new range hood, sprinkle a thin layer of soap powder in the two oil storage boxes, and then fill them with about one-third of water. In this way, the recovered oil will float on the water surface instead of condensing on the wall of the box. Wait until the waste oil is almost full, pour it out and repeat the same process.

How can we prevent the body of the range hood from oil? Before using it, we can use a slightly damp rag dipped in dishwashing detergent (do not add water) to wipe the body, and also wipe the fan blades as much as possible. After it dries naturally, the 'detergent coating' to prevent oil smoke from sticking is ready. After a while, if the body of the device feels sticky, it's time to clean it. Since there is a 'protective coating' between the oil stains and the fuselage, the oil stains will be washed off first if the fuselage is cleaned directly with 80°C hot water. After cleaning, don't forget to apply detergent on the machine again. Apply it a little thicker and control the humidity to "no dripping". Then cover the power button with plastic wrap.

2. Waste oil is the best degreasing agent

Filter out the top layer of waste oil in the range hood oil storage box, which is the 'best remover' for cleaning stains on ventilation fans, stoves and range hoods. The specific method is to dip a rag or a torn towel in waste oil and apply it to the oily area. After soaking for about half a minute, wipe it off with a cloth, and then wipe it with a clean scouring pad. At this time, the body of the range hood will be so bright that you can "look in the mirror".

3. Cleaning of oil storage box

In addition to the 'water storage cleaning method' mentioned above, you can stick a layer of plastic wrap inside the box or put a small plastic bag filled with tangerines on the inner wall of the oil storage box, ensuring that the plastic film or plastic bag completely covers the inner surface of the box to 'hold' the absorbed waste oil. Then, after a period of time, pump it out and replace it, and the oil storage box will be basically clean.

So when cleaning the range hood, the most important thing is to cut off the power supply, because if the power supply is not cut off, it is very likely to cause electric shock. And when cleaning, you should use some stain removers that are better. Only in this way can you clean the range hood without spending a lot of effort. You can use 80-degree hot water to clean it.
