Are solid fragrance agents harmful to the human body?

I believe most of my friends are familiar with air fresheners. Common air fresheners in our lives include solid volatile type, liquid spray type, and so on. Air fresheners can improve some bad smells in the room and make the whole room full of fragrance. Therefore, air fresheners have always been popular among the general public. So are solid air fresheners harmful to our bodies? Let’s find out together!

At present, there are many kinds of air freshener products in my country, which can be summarized into three types: gas, liquid and solid. Gaseous air fresheners include ozone and negative ion. Liquid air fresheners are mainly made of various spices dissolved in organic solvents. Solid air fresheners mainly include sanitary incense and incense. The "air fresheners" sold on the market are composed of ingredients such as ethanol, flavors, and deionized water. The canned products also contain propellants such as propane, butane, dimethyl ether, and are filled with a certain amount of compressed gases such as nitrogen. When in use, it masks odors by emitting fragrance, but it cannot react with odor-causing gases such as ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, etc., and it is impossible to decompose or remove such harmful gases, and will cause secondary pollution of the room.

The main ingredients of solid air fresheners are: flavors, alginate, surfactants, water, pigments, etc. Although they are non-toxic, smelling them for a long time will stimulate the olfactory system and keep people's nerves in an excited state. To keep the room air fresh, it is best to open the windows for ventilation every morning and around 3 pm, which is quite effective.

After reading the above introduction, I believe everyone has already known that although air fresheners can make our whole house fragrant, they cannot purify the air. If the human body is exposed to air fresheners for a long time, it will stimulate our sense of smell, keep the nerves in an excited state, and air fresheners will also cause secondary pollution in the room.
