Left temporal lobe function

Left temporal lobe function

Most people will test their IQ, and most people have a more developed left brain than right brain, because our left brain generally controls the nerves on the right side of our body, and our right brain generally controls the left half of our body. Most people prefer to do things with their right hand, so the left brain is much more developed than the right brain. The function of the left temporal lobe is also more important to us, so how to test the function of the left temporal lobe?

The left cerebral hemisphere is closely related to language, consciousness, mathematical analysis, etc.

Auditory area: The transverse temporal gyrus (areas 41 and 42) receives fibers from the medial geniculate body. The auditory center on each side receives impulses from both ears. Therefore, damage to the auditory center on one side will not cause total deafness.

Motor language center (speech center): the posterior part of the inferior frontal gyrus. If this center is damaged, the patient can make sounds but cannot speak meaningful language.

Writing center: the posterior part of the middle frontal gyrus, close to the upper limb representation area of the precentral gyrus, especially the motor area of the hand. If this center is damaged, although the motor function of the hand is still preserved, fine movements such as writing and drawing will be impaired.

Auditory language center: The posterior part of the superior frontal lobe. If this center is damaged, the patient can hear others speak but cannot understand the meaning of the speech, nor can he understand what he himself says.

Visual language center (reading center): There is no obvious boundary between the auditory language center and the visual language center. Some scholars call them Wernicke's area, including the superior temporal gyrus, the posterior part of the middle temporal gyrus, the supramarginal gyrus and the angular gyrus. Damage to the Wernicke's area causes severe sensory aphasia.
