The significance of the five functions of thyroid examination

Everyone wants to be healthy, because a healthy body can lead to a higher quality of life. So now many people want to have a specific understanding of thyroid examinations in order to stay healthy. They want to check the health of their thyroid gland through examinations after understanding it. So what is the significance of the five functions of thyroid examinations? Let's take a look at the following introduction.

One of the items in the thyroid examination is the five-item thyroid function test, which can help doctors accurately understand the patient's condition and severity, and the significance of the examination is very important. A thyroid specialist at Tianjin No. 1 Central Hospital said that the cost of this examination is generally around 200-300 yuan, and the examination fees vary in hospitals of different levels.

1. Total triiodothyronine (TT3)

TT3 is the main hormone for the thyroid hormone to act on various target organs. TT3 is an important indicator for identifying early hyperthyroidism and monitoring recurrent hyperthyroidism. TT3 determination can also be used to identify T3 type hyperthyroidism and diagnose pseudothyrotoxicosis. TT3 normal reference value: 0.45-1.37 ng/ml.

2. Total thyroxine (TT4)

TT4 is the main product of thyroid secretion and an indispensable component of the integrity of the hypothalamus-anterior pituitary-thyroid regulatory system. TT4 determination can be used for the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism, primary and secondary hypothyroidism, and for monitoring TSH suppression therapy. TT4 normal reference value: 4.5-12 ug/dl.

3. Free triiodothyronine (FT3)

4. Free thyroxine (FT4)

FT3 and FT4 are the physiologically active forms of T3 and T4, and are a true reflection of the metabolic state of the thyroid gland. FT3 and FT4 are more sensitive and more meaningful than T3 and T4. The advantage of FT3 and FT4 determination is that they are not affected by changes in the concentration and binding characteristics of the proteins they bind to, so there is no need to determine the binding parameters separately. Normal reference values: FT3 1.45~3.48 pg/ml FT4 0.71~1.85 ng/dl.

(Note: TSH, FT3 and FT4 are often used to confirm hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism and track the efficacy of the treatment.)

5. Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)

The TSH test is a preliminary screening test to determine thyroid function. Patients with TSH-secreting pituitary tumors have elevated serum TSH. TSH is an important indicator for monitoring thyroid hormone suppression therapy after thyroid cancer surgery or radiotherapy. It is particularly suitable for early detection or exclusion of functional disorders in the hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid central regulatory circuit. Normal reference value of TSH: 0.49~4.67 mIU/L.

The significance of the five functions of thyroid examination, whether you are healthy or feel unwell, you should understand the above content and undergo a thyroid examination. Through the thyroid examination, you can understand your current health condition, and then carry out targeted and effective treatment to make your body healthier.
