What should we do when the indoor air is dry in winter

In the cold winter, many families will turn on the heating at home, which will make the air in the house very dry and may even easily cause many respiratory diseases. Once you have a cold or even a respiratory disease, you will feel very uncomfortable. You should find a way to alleviate the dryness of the indoor air. So is there any good way to alleviate it? Let's take a look at some specific measures to help you understand.

1. Place a humidifier indoors. A humidifier is not a sterilizer and must be cleaned regularly. Otherwise it is easy to cause respiratory diseases. There are some dangers in using a humidifier. It is necessary to clean it regularly. Otherwise, the mold and other microorganisms in the humidifier will enter the air with the steam mist and then enter the human respiratory tract, making it easy to get humidifier pneumonia. In addition, the higher the air humidity is, the better. In winter, the humidity that the human body feels comfortable is about 50%. If the air humidity is too high, people will feel chest tightness and difficulty breathing, so it is better to humidify moderately.

2. Open windows for ventilation. When the weather is good, open the windows for ventilation. The air in nature is always pure. However, emphasizing ventilation does not mean that the doors and windows should be open all day long. The ventilation time should be chosen reasonably. According to research and tests, in cities with relatively concentrated industries, there are two pollution peaks and two relatively clean valleys during the day and night. The two pollution peaks are generally around sunrise and in the evening, and the two relatively clean periods are around 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., when you can open the windows as appropriate. The time and frequency of opening windows in a day can be arranged according to the size of the house, the number of people, living habits, the degree of indoor pollution and weather conditions. Taking a 100-cubic-meter space as an example, in the absence of wind and with a 20°C temperature difference between indoor and outdoor, air exchange can be achieved in about ten minutes. If the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor is small, the exchange time will be extended accordingly. Although it is cold in winter, you should still open windows for ventilation at least twice a day, each time for no less than 15 minutes and no more than 30 minutes.

3. Grow some flowers and plants. According to industry insiders, plants like green ivy, lucky bamboo, and scattered tail are the best choices for regulating humidity. Green ivy can also absorb formaldehyde, and is best placed in a newly renovated house, but be sure to dry the water in the flowerpot tray so that the round holes in the flowerpot will be breathable. Lucky bamboo can also release humidity into the room, and has relatively low requirements for the environment. It can survive even in a room without sunlight.

There are many ways to keep indoor air moist, especially in winter. You can put a basin of water in the house, or put some green plants that can release oxygen to purify the air and make the indoor air more moist. You can also wipe the floor with a wet cloth to alleviate the dryness of the indoor air.
