Are removable dentures better or fixed ones?

In life, some people have their teeth knocked out due to some accidents. Both young people and some older people will experience tooth loss. Dentures have become something that modern people will do. So, is it better to have removable or fixed dentures? In fact, both removable and fixed dentures have their own advantages and disadvantages. As for whether removable or fixed dentures are better, maybe everyone still doesn’t understand. Let me explain it to you below.

First, let’s talk about fixed dentures:

Advantages: good retention, support, stability, high chewing efficiency, comfortable feeling for patients, no obvious foreign body sensation, easy to adapt, no effect on pronunciation, beautiful, close to natural teeth, no need to remove, easy to use

Disadvantages: narrow application range, relatively more tooth tissue is cut, difficult to adjust and repair, difficult to repair after bonding, difficult to remove and clean outside the mouth

Then there are removable dentures:

Advantages: Wide application range, less tooth tissue removal, can be removed and put on by oneself, easy to wash and clean to maintain good oral hygiene, simple production method, low cost, easy to repair and supplement, abutment teeth and supporting tissues can get proper rest at night, base can fill the defect area to restore the proper appearance

Disadvantages: Dentures are large and have many parts. When first worn, patients often feel like they have a foreign body, which sometimes affects pronunciation and causes nausea. Their stability and chewing function are not as good as fixed dentures. If the denture design is unreasonable, the production quality is poor, or the patient has difficulty maintaining oral hygiene, it may also cause adverse consequences such as abutment tooth damage, mucosal ulcers, plaque formation and tartar accumulation, caries and periodontitis, accelerated alveolar ridge resorption, and temporomandibular joint diseases.

If conditions permit, you can consider dental implants, which can be said to be the best way to repair missing teeth.

Dentures can maintain normal occlusion of teeth. When installing dentures, you can choose according to the patient's own dental conditions. Some young people definitely don't like to wear removable dentures for the sake of beauty. Generally, the elderly have a lot of missing teeth, so removable dentures are very suitable. Dentures can be installed according to the patient's own dental conditions. Only in this way can suitable dentures be made.
