Arm ganglion cyst

Arm ganglion cyst

People must be careful when playing with their mobile phones, because excessive use of mobile phones will not only damage their eyes, but also the tendon sheaths of their hands. The reason why there are more and more patients suffering from hand tenosynovitis is because of the popularity of electronic products nowadays. If hand tenosynovitis is not treated in time, it will develop into a hand ganglion cyst in the later stages. What is the treatment for a ganglion cyst in the arm?

Causes of Disease

The cause of the disease is unknown. It is mainly believed to be related to local malnutrition, degenerative myxoid degeneration or local chronic strain of the connective tissue on the joint capsule, ligament and tendon sheath. The main clinical manifestations are hemispherical lumps ranging in size from wrist bean to thumb on the dorsum of the wrist, palm of the wrist, elbow or dorsum of the foot. The lumps are hard, elastic, have a fixed base and are tender to the touch.

Clinical characteristics

The disease most commonly occurs on the dorsal side of the wrist, followed by the radial side of the palmar surface of the wrist. It can also occur on the palm, fingers, elbows and dorsum of the foot. A few cases occur near the knee and elbow joints. It is more common in young and middle-aged people, more common in women than in men. Most cases occur gradually or are discovered occasionally and grow slowly. In very rare cases,

The cyst can be absorbed on its own, but it takes a long time. Most cases are treated non-surgically with good results. Very few cases require surgical resection, with good results.

Common symptoms

1. Local lumps and swellings appear on the dorsal side of the wrist, palm side, elbow or dorsum of the foot. They grow slowly and rarely cause pain or discomfort. In some cases, it occurs in the carpal tunnel or the hypothenar eminence of the palm, which may compress the median nerve or ulnar nerve and cause corresponding sensory and motor disorders.

2. The lump is hemispherical, pea- to thumb-sized, usually no larger than 2 cm, with a smooth and full surface, no adhesion to the skin, hard and elastic to the touch, and may feel cystic. The base is fixed, and there is soreness or pain when pressed.

2. Patients with wrist ganglion cysts will feel obvious morning stiffness after getting up every day. Usually the feeling of morning stiffness is most obvious after getting up, and the symptoms will not be significantly relieved with frequent activities. The affected joints are swollen and even snapping, and the medicine can promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis and eliminate soreness and swelling.

Diagnosis

1. A hemispherical, smooth, and tense cystic mass appears on the dorsal side of the wrist, palm side, elbow, or dorsum of the foot.

2. The lump grows slowly, feels sore or painful when pressed, and has a fixed base.

3. X-rays show no changes in bones and joints.

Acupuncture treatment

Treatment method: Promote blood circulation, resolve nodules, and regulate the meridians and tendons (protect the tendons).

Western medicine treatment

1. Ganglion cysts can sometimes disappear on their own, but it takes a long time and is very painful.

2. Superficial cysts can be crushed, broken, squeezed with external force or the cyst wall can be punctured with a needle and wait for it to be absorbed on its own. It can be cured, but it is prone to recurrence. After being ruptured by external force, the wrist will feel very uncomfortable and swollen. If the fluid is not absorbed, the cyst will slowly reform.

3. Puncture with a thick needle under local anesthesia, draw out as much colloidal liquid as possible, inject, and apply pressure bandage once a week. Repeat 2-3 times to heal, but relapse is common.

4. Surgical treatment. The surgery must be done carefully to completely remove the entire cyst wall along with the surrounding normal tendon sheath, aponeurosis and other tissues. Recurrence is rare after surgery. If the tumor recurs, it can still be removed surgically again. However, it is easy to relapse and the treatment cost is high.
