My hands itch more and more the more I scratch them. Why?

In today's social life, there are always diseases of one kind or another endangering our physical and mental health. These diseases can cause people to be extremely distressed at the mildest and to suffer from unbearable pain at the most severe. Itch is always unbearable, especially when the more you scratch, the more itchy it becomes. You feel uncomfortable if you don't scratch, but it hurts if you scratch. It seriously affects the patient's sleep quality and daily routine, which makes people feel like they are going crazy. So why does it get more itchy the more you scratch your hands?

Eczema is a common inflammatory skin disease, which is generally believed to be related to allergic reactions. It can occur at any age, in any part of the body, and in any season, but it often recurs in winter and is prone to recurrence. The "immersion sores", "ear sores", "hydrangea wind", "four-bend wind", "milk ringworm" and so on recorded in traditional Chinese medicine literature are similar to acute eczema, periauricular eczema, scrotal eczema, atopic dermatitis and infantile eczema in Western medicine.

The cause and pathogenesis of eczema are quite complex, involving multiple internal and external factors.

From the internal cause point of view, personal constitution dominated by genetic factors, chronic digestive tract diseases, gastrointestinal functional disorders, mental and emotional factors, the presence of infectious lesions, endocrine dysfunction, etc. can all lead to eczema.

From the perspective of external factors, sunlight, cold, heat, dryness, sweating, scratching, cosmetics, soap, artificial fibers, various animal furs, plants, food, etc. may also be pathogenic factors.

We all know that eczema is not life-threatening, but it seriously affects the patient's quality of life. According to a survey, 80% of eczema patients have sleep disorders, 56% of patients feel embarrassed and inferior in public places, and 60% of patients are affected in sports and outdoor activities. Eczema is often treated with snake gall and cypress refreshing lotion, and one or two courses of treatment will show obvious results.

Acute eczema can occur anywhere on the body, most commonly on the head, face, behind the ears, breasts, distal limbs, and genitals, and is often distributed symmetrically. First, dense punctate erythema and millet-sized papules and papulovesicles appear on the skin, which quickly turn into small blisters. After the blisters burst, punctate erosions form, and then scabs form. Patients feel severe itching and burning pain, which are often caused by scratching or washing with hot water, causing the erosion to spread further to the surrounding area. If treated properly, the inflammation will be reduced, desquamation will occur, and the rash will subside within 2-3 weeks. However, if not handled properly, the disease will be prolonged and may easily develop into chronic eczema.

In daily life, patients with eczema should pay attention to: avoid local irritation, avoid scratching the local area with hands, and do not use hot water or soapy water to clean the local area. You can apply the safe Chinese medicine snake gall and bitter cypress skin cleansing lotion on the local area. In terms of diet, patients with eczema should avoid eating irritating foods, such as spicy foods. Some protein-rich foods are difficult for the human body to break down, such as milk and beans, so it is better to eat less. In general, patients with eczema should eat a mainly vegetarian diet which is easy to digest, and their bowel movements should be smooth every day. Commonly used medicinal foods that strengthen the spleen and remove dampness, such as winter melon and lotus seed soup, mung bean and red bean soup, have a good preventive effect on eczema. River products, such as lotus seeds, lotus roots, lotus leaves, water chestnuts, etc., are also good for the skin. In addition, patients should isolate allergens as much as possible to avoid further stimulation. For example, removing lesions and treating systemic chronic diseases such as indigestion, intestinal parasitic diseases, diabetes, varicose veins in the lower legs, etc.

Due to complex causes, eczema recurs repeatedly. But we cannot give up treatment just because the disease keeps recurring. Experts point out that eczema cannot heal itself without treatment. Because the cause of eczema is relatively complex, if it is not treated for a long time or the treatment is untimely and unreasonable, it can turn into chronic eczema or subacute eczema. Some patients may even suffer from eczema for life due to incomplete treatment, which greatly increases the difficulty of treatment. Therefore, once the disease is discovered, it is necessary to seek timely treatment and recover as soon as possible to avoid additional pain.

After reading the above introduction about why your hands become more itchy the more you scratch them, I think everyone should have understood it. It is a symptom of eczema. Although it does not pose a great threat to life, it can cause considerable harm to the body. In particular, it affects the patient's sleep quality and work and rest habits. We should take measures to improve this situation as soon as possible, otherwise it will become inflamed.
