Is it okay to sit down after eating?

Normally, after finishing our meals, we will sit down and chat with friends, but many people worry that sitting and chatting like this will cause the fat they eat to accumulate in the body, causing them to gain weight. Therefore, for the sake of beauty and slimness, many people always do some exercises such as walking after meals to burn off the fat they eat. So, is this true? Is it good to sit down after eating?

After eating, it is most scientific to sit and rest for half an hour. The saying “Take a hundred steps after a meal and live to be ninety-nine” also requires you to sit down and rest for half an hour before going out for a walk. The reason for sitting down is that you have just eaten and your stomach is congested with blood. You need to rest for a while to give your stomach some buffer and allow the blood to slowly flow back and disperse. Taking a walk is beneficial to the circulation of qi and blood throughout the body and aids digestion.

It is not advisable to exercise for a period of time after a meal, as it can easily cause gastroptosis. The only activity you can do is walking. If you want to exercise after a meal, it should be at least two hours later, and that is if you don't have a large appetite; professional athletes are required to have a proper meal four hours before a competition. You cannot have a proper meal within four hours before a competition, and can only take a small amount of supplementary fruit juice or liquid food.

It is not good to stand immediately after a meal. Because the stomach swells after a meal, the abdominal muscles tighten when standing, and the small space compresses the stomach, affecting blood circulation. When sitting, the abdomen is most relaxed and has the largest space, which allows sufficient blood circulation and helps food to be digested and absorbed gradually.

This is what you usually do after dinner. Sit down and rest for half an hour after dinner, then go out and take a slow walk for about an hour. This is most beneficial to the body.

Because exercising right after a meal often leads to diseases such as gastroptosis, the healthiest way to maintain health is to sit for a while after a meal. This will give the stomach some buffer time. If you are worried about fat accumulation, you can sit for half an hour after a meal and then do some more soothing movements, such as taking a walk.
