What is the effect of soft Bupleurum?

Bupleurum is a common Chinese medicinal material, which is divided into southern Bupleurum and northern Bupleurum according to its geographical distribution. Southern Bupleurum is mainly produced in Sichuan or Hubei in southern my country, while Northern Bupleurum is mainly grown in Liaoning or Gansu. Southern Bupleurum is also called soft Bupleurum because of its soft texture. It is generally curved, but there are also straight ones. So, what is the function of soft Bupleurum? Next, let’s take a look at some professional information.

Features: The rhizome is thin and conical, with many fine hair-like dead leaf fibers at the top, and the lower part is mostly unbranched or slightly branched. The surface is reddish brown or blackish brown, with dense ring patterns near the root head. The texture is slightly soft, easy to break, the cross section is slightly flat, and not fibrous. It has bad oil and gas.

Characteristics of large-leaf Bupleurum: The leaves are relatively wide, oblong or broadly lanceolate, and the umbels are as thin as threads. 3-4 times longer than the involucre. Grown in forests and thickets.

1. Antipyretic, active ingredients: volatile oil (eugenol, caproic acid, r-undecanoic acid lactone and p-methoxybenzone), bupleurum saponin (sapogenin A). Effect: It has a significant antipyretic effect on fever caused by typhoid, paratyphoid vaccine, E. coli liquid, fermented milk, yeast, etc.; and can lower the normal body temperature of animals. The commercial Bupleurum decoction 2g/kg was administered intragastrically to rabbits, which had a significant antipyretic effect on fever caused by vaccines and warm acupuncture.

2. Anti-inflammatory, active ingredient: saponin. Effect: It has an inhibitory effect on ankle joint swelling and connective tissue proliferative inflammation caused by a variety of inflammatory agents. Intraperitoneal injection of 300 mg/kg of saikosaponin can inhibit the swelling of the rat paws caused by carrageenan, 5-hydroxytryptamine, and histamine, inhibit the cotton ball granuloma of rats, and at the same time cause adrenal hypertrophy and thymus atrophy; inhibit the release of histamine in inflammatory tissues and the migration of leukocytes.

3. Promote immune function, active ingredient: Bupleurum polysaccharide. Effect: Enhanced phagocytic function, enhanced natural killer cell function, increased virus-specific antibody titer, increased lymphocyte translocation rate, and increased skin delayed allergic reaction.

4. Anti-liver damage: subcutaneous injection of Bupleurum injection (concentration 1:1) 1 ml/rat for 5 consecutive days can significantly reduce the increase in serum GPT in rats caused by carbon tetrachloride, and liver cell degeneration and necrosis are also significantly alleviated. The glycogen and ribonucleic acid content in liver cells is also close to normal.

5. Anti-radiation damage: intraperitoneal injection of 5 mg/mouse Bupleurum polysaccharide can improve the survival rate of irradiated mice, increase the incorporation of 3H-TdR in mouse thymocytes, accelerate the release of thymocytes, and at the same time increase the plasma epithelium. The ketone content increased, and these symptoms no longer occurred after adrenal removal, so it is believed that this is achieved through the adrenal cortex. In addition, it has anti-tuberculosis effect in vitro. Progress in pharmacological action research: connected with the Chinese medicine pharmacology research database.

Bupleurum is not suitable for people with internal heat. Bupleurum cannot be incompatible with Gleditsia sinensis, Nectarine pollen, Veratrum album, etc. The dried rhizome of Bupleurum chinense has densely covered links on the surface and is poisonous, but can be used as Bupleurum. Whether it is soft Bupleurum or northern Bupleurum, their effects are actually similar. They can both be used as Bupleurum and their effects are generally the same.
