What does it mean when there are too many white blood cells in the urine test?

Urine, blood, etc. are important bases for examining and diagnosing diseases. If there is something wrong with the body, they will also have different manifestations from normal people. Going to the hospital for routine urine and blood tests is very important. Through the results, you can foresee many signs of diseases. So, what does it mean when there is a high number of white blood cells in the urine test? Now let me explain it to you in detail.

If the white blood cells in the urine are higher than normal, consider urinary tract infection.

Urinary tract infection refers to the inflammation caused by pathogens growing and multiplying in the urinary tract and invading the urinary tract mucosa or tissue. It is the most common type of bacterial infection. Urinary tract infection is divided into upper urinary tract infection and lower urinary tract infection. Upper urinary tract infection refers to pyelonephritis, and lower urinary tract infection includes urethritis and cystitis. Depending on the presence or absence of underlying diseases, urinary tract infections can be divided into complicated urinary tract infections and uncomplicated urinary tract infections. Pyelonephritis is divided into acute pyelonephritis and chronic pyelonephritis. It is more common in women.

1. Cystitis:

This is commonly referred to as a lower urinary tract infection. The main manifestation of cystitis in adult women is urinary tract irritation, i.e. frequent urination, urgency, pain, leukocytosis, occasional hematuria, even macroscopic hematuria, and discomfort in the bladder area. Generally there are no obvious systemic infection symptoms, but a few patients may have low back pain, low fever (generally not exceeding 38°C), and the white blood cell count is often not increased. About 30% of cystitis is self-limiting and can heal itself within 7 to 10 days.

2. Acute pyelonephritis:

The manifestations include the following two groups of symptoms: ① Urinary system symptoms: including bladder irritation signs such as frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating, as well as low back pain and/or lower abdominal pain. ②Symptoms of systemic infection: such as chills, fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, etc., often accompanied by increased white blood cell count and increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate. There is generally no hypertension or azotemia. Taking levofloxacin and metronidazole

Daily prevention of urinary tract infection

1. Urinating immediately after sex

Going to the bathroom right after sex can help flush out bacteria from your bladder even if they get into your bladder.

2. Urinate promptly

When you urinate, urine flushes away bacteria from the urethra and vaginal opening, thus having a natural cleansing effect.

3. Avoid pollution

The most common bacteria that causes infection is Escherichia coli. Under normal circumstances, it parasitizes in the intestines and does not cause symptoms. However, if it enters the urethra through the anus, it will cause urethritis. Therefore, wipe with clean toilet paper after defecation, and follow the order from front to back to avoid contaminating the vaginal opening. If there is a flushing device in the bathroom, it is best to rinse the anus carefully.

Patients should bathe frequently, change underwear frequently, and keep their genitals clean, especially during menstruation, pregnancy, and delivery. Do not use irritating cleaning products to wash the genitals. Both husband and wife should clean the genitals in time before and after intercourse. Do not eat spicy or cold food, drink plenty of water, and seek timely treatment.
