What are the clinical manifestations of habitual abortion?

Many women encounter misfortune when they just find out that they are going to be mothers: habitual miscarriage. The doctor told us that habitual miscarriage is actually one of the causes of female infertility. As long as a woman has experienced two or more consecutive miscarriages, and the gestational month of each miscarriage is the same, then it is habitual miscarriage. In order to better identify the disease, let’s take a look at the symptoms of habitual miscarriage.

The clinical manifestations of habitual abortion are the same as those of general abortion, and it may also go through several stages: threatened abortion, inevitable abortion, incomplete or complete abortion. In the early stage, it may only manifest as a little vaginal bleeding or slight lower abdominal pain. The bleeding may last for several days or weeks and the amount of blood is small. Once vaginal bleeding increases, abdominal pain worsens, and examination shows that the cervix is dilated, or even the fetal sac is blocking the cervix, miscarriage is inevitable. If all the products of conception are expelled, it is called complete abortion; if only part of the products of conception are expelled and some remain in the uterine cavity, it is called incomplete abortion and requires immediate uterine cleaning.

According to the time when habitual abortion occurs, abortion can be divided into early habitual abortion and late habitual abortion. Early habitual abortion refers to abortion occurring before 12 weeks of pregnancy, which is generally related to genetic factors, maternal endocrine disorders and immunological factors; late habitual abortion refers to abortion occurring after 12 weeks of pregnancy, which is generally related to factors such as uterine malformation, cervical dysplasia, blood type incompatibility and maternal disease.

In addition, habitual abortion can be divided into primary and secondary types according to whether there is a normal reproductive history before the habitual abortion. Primary habitual miscarriage refers to the patient having never had a normal pregnancy with the same husband and having multiple miscarriages before 20 weeks of pregnancy; secondary miscarriage refers to the patient having had a normal pregnancy with the same husband and having given birth to a live baby at least once, or having never given birth but having miscarriages that mostly occurred after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Because the cause is unclear and there is no effective classification method, clinicians often blindly give traditional Chinese medicine, progesterone or human chorionic gonadotropin for so-called pregnancy preservation treatment during the threatened abortion stage. However, since the cause is unknown, the treatment effect can be imagined. At present, some doctors at home and abroad use the method of vaccinating patients with lymphocytes from their husbands or other people to treat habitual abortion, but the side effects are extremely serious, so the clinical efficacy is controversial.

Although the incidence of habitual miscarriage is not very high in real life, for safety and to ensure the survival of the child, prospective parents must be extra careful and pay special attention to all aspects that may lead to habitual miscarriage.

We have also seen a lot about the symptoms of habitual miscarriage. If you, an expectant mother, find that you have pain in your lower abdomen or irregular vaginal bleeding, you should take it seriously, go to the hospital for a check-up as soon as possible, and take measures to protect the fetus. Here, we also remind expectant mothers to keep a happy mood and breathe more fresh air, which is good for both the body and the baby.
