The standard method for prenatal ultrasound examination to determine whether the ventricles are widened and the extent of the lesions is to measure the width of the body of the lateral ventricle. The normal width of the body of the lateral ventricle is ≤10 mm, with an average of 7 mm. A lateral ventricle width greater than 10 mm is called ventriculomegaly. The width of the left lateral ventricle is more than 10mm, so in order to ensure the health of the baby, pregnant mothers should pay attention to asking the doctor and caring about the health of the fetus during prenatal check-ups. Let’s take a look at the reasons why the left lateral ventricle is wide. A clinical treatment 1 If ventriculomegaly is suspected during ultrasound screening, it should be measured and evaluated, along with a detailed examination for other structural malformations or genetic markers. 2Chromosome karyotype analysis is recommended. 3 Since lateral ventriculomegaly is also related to fetal intrauterine infection, TORCH virus screening is recommended. 4. MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is recommended to help exclude central nervous system diseases. Differential diagnosis 1. Severe ventriculomegaly: (ventricle width ≥ 15 mm, also known as hydrocephalus) refers to excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricular system, expansion of the lateral ventricle system, increased pressure, and ventriculomegaly during ultrasound examination. Generally, a widening of the trigone of the lateral ventricle by 1.5 cm is considered ventricular enlargement, and the wider the area, the more serious the enlargement. If the triangle is 1.2 to 1.4 cm wide and the choroid plexus occupies more than 50% of the ventricle, it is generally considered normal. If the choroid plexus is shrunk and becomes suspended, hydrocephalus is considered to be present. 2. Mild ventriculomegaly: defined as the diameter of the lateral ventricle ≥10mm and ≤15mm. A lateral ventricle diameter of <10 mm is considered to be within the normal physiological range. 3. Isolated mild ventriculomegaly: refers to cases in which no other abnormalities are found in prenatal systematic ultrasound examination. About 10% of fetuses with isolated mild ventriculomegaly have chromosomal abnormalities, the most common of which is trisomy 21. Viral infection during pregnancy, especially cytomegalovirus infection in late pregnancy, can also often lead to abnormal manifestations such as isolated ventriculomegaly and paraventricular mixed echoes. Three preventions 1. Prognosis: Congenital diseases of the nervous system have different clinical manifestations and varying degrees of severity. In severe cases, the baby cannot survive after birth. In most cases, the family discovers the abnormality some time after birth, so the prognosis varies greatly. 2 Prevention: Pay attention to maternal and infant perinatal care and neonatal feeding care to prevent premature birth, low birth weight, intrapartum hypoxia and asphyxia, and postpartum jaundice. After reading the above content, you will understand the reasons for the wide left lateral ventricle. Due to congenital chromosomal problems, what you need to do is to carefully ask the doctor about the development of the fetus during the prenatal check-up, and try not to give birth to a baby with problems, otherwise it will be a lifelong burden for the child and his family, so do a good job of checking. |
