Causes of sequelae of skull base fracture

Causes of sequelae of skull base fracture

In daily life, many young people do not care about their physical health, and it is inevitable that they will suffer skull base fractures due to some minor accidents. The slave fracture means falling on the head. Although everyone will feel that nothing is wrong after recovering from the operation, in fact, everyone does not know that this will bring very serious sequelae. So what are the sequelae of skull base fracture? Next, let me introduce it to you.

Complications of fractures are generally divided into early and late stages. The specific manifestations of the early stage are: 1. Shock: caused by severe trauma, massive bleeding or damage to important organs; 2. Fat embolism syndrome: occurs in adults, due to excessive tension of hematoma in the medullary cavity at the fracture site, bone marrow is destroyed, and fat droplets enter the ruptured synostotic fossa, causing pulmonary and cerebral fat embolism; 3. Damage to important internal organs and surrounding tissues; 4. Compartment syndrome: more common in the inner forearm and calf, often caused by traumatic fractures or overly tight external bandages, which force the volume of the osteofascial compartment to decrease and the pressure inside the osteofascial compartment to increase.

Late complications of fractures include: 1. Aspiration pneumonia: It often occurs in patients who have been bedridden for a long time due to fractures, especially the elderly, the weak and those with chronic diseases; 2. Bedsores; 3. Lower limb venous thrombosis: It is more common in patients with pelvic fractures or lower limb fractures. Long-term lack of exercise keeps the blood in a hypercoagulable state; 4. Infection: Open fractures, especially those with heavy contamination or accompanied by severe soft tissue injuries, can lead to suppurative osteomyelitis if the wound is not thoroughly cleaned; 5. Traumatic ossification: It is mostly caused by joint sprains, dislocations or fractures near joints, and the periosteum is stripped to form subperiosteal hematomas. Improper treatment causes extensive ossification in the soft tissue near the joints; 6. Traumatic arthritis: The fracture cannot be accurately reduced, the joint surface is uneven, and long-term wear and tear can easily cause arthritis; 7. Joint stiffness; 8. Acute bone atrophy: It is painful osteoporosis near the joint caused by injury, also known as reflex sympathetic osteodystrophy

After understanding the sequelae of skull base fracture, you can see that the symptoms it causes are actually very serious and will affect your daily life. It is recommended that everyone should pay attention to their personal safety and prevent various accidents that may cause harm to everyone's health.
