A can of Coke's journey through the human body. Do you want another can after reading this?

It is very enjoyable to take a sip of ice-cold Coke in summer. Do you know what changes the Coke will go through in your body after you gulp it down?

10 minutes: 10 spoonfuls of sugar rush into your body, about 193 calories. This is equivalent to 100% of the recommended daily intake. This dose should have made you feel nauseous, but the phosphoric acid (in the drink) blocked that feeling.

20 minutes: Your blood sugar skyrockets. In order to convert high blood sugar into fat, your pancreas starts to work hard and produces insulin at full capacity.

40 minutes: The caffeine is almost absorbed, your pupils begin to dilate, your blood pressure rises, and your liver pumps more sugar into your plasma. The adenosine receptors in your brain block your body's actual feelings, making your fatigue disappear.

45 minutes: The body's dopamine release increases, giving you a doubled sense of pleasure, while your dependence on the drink also increases. This body's neural response is similar to that of taking heroin.

60 minutes: The phosphoric acid in the small intestine combines with calcium, magnesium and zinc to speed up your metabolism. High doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners accelerate the excretion of calcium in the urine, and the diuretic effect of caffeine also comes into play. Calcium, magnesium, and zinc that would have been stored in your bones will be lost from your body, along with sodium, electrolytes, and water. Your body excretes all the water from the carbonated drinks you drank previously; at the same time, the nutrients and minerals dissolved in the water that were originally used to build your cells, bones, and teeth are also excreted.

When the sugar is almost gone, you become restless and/or sluggish. You start to feel like crap and you start to think, “Is it time for another bottle?”
