See if you are prone to sleep paralysis

See if you are prone to sleep paralysis

In the past two months, Xiao Xu could always hear the sounds around him while he was half asleep and half awake. But the strange thing was that no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't exert any strength. He wanted to scream but no sound came out. He wanted to open his eyes or turn over and get up, but he couldn't move at all.

After struggling desperately for several minutes, you will finally wake up and feel very tired all over, sometimes even covered in sweat. When I talked about it with my colleagues, they all said it was sleep paralysis, so I went to the temple to worship, but after I got home, the symptoms did not improve at all.

Conditions like Xiao Xu's have a formal medical name: sleep paralysis, commonly known as "sleep paralysis" or "body paralysis" among the people. It can occur during lunch breaks and nighttime sleep.

It is more common in teenagers and young people. These people usually have too much stress in life, irregular work and rest schedules, often stay up late, suffer from insomnia and anxiety.

Paralysis usually occurs during dreaming.

Sleep paralysis occurs during the rapid eye movement phase of the sleep cycle, when our eyes move during sleep and when we dream. During REM sleep, all of our muscles, except for the respiratory muscles and eye muscles, are in a state of extremely low tension.

This is a protective effect that prevents us from acting out our dreams and hurting ourselves or our partner.

For unknown reasons, sleep paralysis patients have regained consciousness, but the muscles of their limbs remain in a state of low tension, causing them to not respond to conscious commands.

For example, when we just wake up, it is impossible to clench our fist completely. We can only do so after a few minutes. This is the same principle. In addition, hallucinations are caused by abnormal physical conditions that the brain cannot explain, coupled with fearful fantasies.

Maintain a normal routine and the condition will improve

Many people have had this experience, especially teenagers. Try not to overwork yourself and maintain a normal sleep and rest schedule, which will usually reduce the chances of this happening. However, if it occurs too frequently and affects your sleep quality, you should seek help from a professional doctor and take medication if necessary.
