How to choose oranges

How to choose oranges? This shouldn't be difficult for mothers. Because mothers are usually responsible for the food aspect of life, and almost all the food in the house, including fruits, are bought by mothers. Orange is a kind of fruit that we can often eat in our daily life, and many people also like to use orange to make juice, which is also very delicious. But many times we eat bad oranges, which is caused by not knowing how to choose them.

When it comes to picking oranges, there are certain methods and techniques. Fruit sellers are generally very knowledgeable in this area, but they usually won't tell you. This requires you to explore it on your own, and it is a complicated process. So, let’s introduce in detail how to choose oranges.

Methods/Steps

Choose navel oranges with a small, non-protruding navel. The smaller the navel, the better the taste. Let me tell you a sentence: "Tall orange, flat tangerine, and smooth tangerine". In other words, taller oranges taste sweeter.

Don't buy oranges that are too big. The bigger the orange, the easier it is for the area near the stem to lose water, making it taste dry when eaten.

Oranges with a dense, evenly thick and slightly hard peel contain more water and have a better taste. Look at the pores on the skin. Good oranges have more pores on the skin and feel rough, while poor quality oranges have fewer pores on the skin and feel relatively smooth.

Don't buy oranges that have a thick layer of substance on the skin, are shiny, and feel sticky to the touch. If you rub a good orange with paper, you will find that the color of the paper will not change. If pigments are added during processing, they will fade once rubbed.

Tips for buying oranges: First, the smoother the orange, the better. Imported oranges often have more holes on their skin and are relatively rough, while oranges that have been "beautified" are very smooth and have almost no holes. Secondly, before buying, you can wipe the surface of the fruit with a white napkin, preferably a wet one. If it is pigmented, it will generally leave color on the napkin.

Orange peel cannot be soaked in water for drinking, because there are usually preservatives on the orange peel that are difficult to wash off with water. Skinning tips:

1) Press your hands on the table and rub it. After a few times, the orange peel and flesh will be easier to peel off. This method is slower.

2) Use a knife to peel off the skin in circles like peeling an apple, and then eat the whole thing.

3) The most convenient, fastest and most commonly used method: cut it in the middle with a knife, cut the large one into six petals and the small one into 4 petals. Then separate the skin from one end of each flap.

4) Use an ordinary small iron spoon that you usually use for eating to make a circle on one end of the orange, turn the spoon over (with the convex side facing up), insert it into the small opening, and push down along the curvature of the orange with a little force until it reaches the bottom, pull out the spoon, and then repeat the above steps until the entire orange peel is separated from the flesh, and it is easy to peel without damaging the flesh.

5) In winter, you can put the oranges on the radiator for a while. It will be easier to peel them after they are warm.

It turns out that there are so many details and techniques involved in choosing oranges, so it may be difficult for everyone to digest it all at once. However, knowing how to pick oranges will have many benefits for our future life. We can slowly learn how to pick oranges. After a long period of attempts, we will definitely learn how to pick oranges.
