What causes ear pain

In medicine, earache refers to pain inside or around the patient's ear, which is usually a throbbing or dull pain, accompanied by a distending pain in the ear, and sometimes tinnitus. There are many reasons for earache, most of which are due to infectious diseases in the ear or to lesions in organs near the ear. Ear diseases are divided into two categories: hereditary and non-hereditary.

Common hereditary ear diseases include hereditary ear fistula, and non-hereditary ear diseases include otitis media, ear burns, external auditory canal furunculosis and relapsing polychondritis. If your ear pain is accompanied by redness and swelling of the external auditory canal, tinnitus, exudate or pus in the external auditory canal, and a significant decrease in hearing, you should go to the hospital immediately. Among the many diseases that cause ear pain, otitis media has the highest incidence rate.

Otitis media is an inflammatory disease involving all or part of the middle ear structure. It is more likely to occur in adolescents. Otitis media can be divided into two categories: purulent and non-purulent. The most common causes of otitis media are listening to loud music with headphones for a long time and unclean water entering the ear canal while swimming. In addition, chronic sinusitis and chronic tonsillitis can also induce otitis media if not treated in time.

For the treatment of otitis media and otitis externa, a mixture of antibiotic solution and steroid hormone drugs can be used. Before applying the medicine, you must first clean the pus and secretions in the ear canal, then wipe the ear canal dry with a medical cotton swab, and then you can apply the medicine. During the treatment period, you must pay attention to ear hygiene, avoid swimming, and try to avoid listening to music with headphones.

In addition to ear pain caused by otitis media, there are many other factors that may cause ear pain. If the eardrum is perforated, tympanoplasty or tympanoplasty must be performed in time, otherwise it will seriously affect the patient's hearing. If ear pain is caused by a problem with the temporomandibular joint, no medication is needed. Just apply local heat and give the joint a good rest.
