Children drink some pure milk every day. In the past, we bought cheese and milk powder. Gradually, pure milk replaced them and became an indispensable nutrient for the family. Does everyone know about the shelf life of pure milk?

We usually judge the shelf life of pure milk based on the date on the packaging. Nowadays, many families like to buy imported pure milk. The shelf life of healthy pure milk is different from that of domestic milk. Domestic milk is generally six months, while imported milk generally has a slightly longer shelf life.

1. What is the shelf life of pure milk? What are the storage conditions?

There are three types of pure milk: ultra-high temperature sterilized, pasteurized and fresh milk. Different sterilization methods and storage conditions result in different shelf life. In addition, the shelf life of milk is also affected by its packaging to a certain extent. Even if the same manufacturer produces the same type of milk and the production process is exactly the same, but different packaging such as Tetra Pak, plastic bags, etc. is used, the final shelf life will be different.

(1) Ultra-high temperature sterilized milk

Ultra-high temperature sterilized milk, also known as room temperature milk, refers to milk that is sterilized at 130℃ to 140℃ for 4 to 15 seconds to completely destroy the microorganisms and spores that can grow in it, and then filled under sterile conditions.

Pros and Cons: This milk contains almost no bacteria. Due to the addition of chemically synthesized fresh milk flavors or high-fat substances such as cream, the taste is generally stronger. However, the sterilization method used for this type of milk not only destroys all biologically active substances and most vitamins in fresh milk, but also causes calcium ions that are easily absorbed by humans to combine with the casein in milk, forming substances that are difficult for humans to absorb.

Shelf life and storage conditions: The shelf life is usually 6 to 9 months. It can be stored for a long time at room temperature without any restrictions on storage conditions and is easy to store and carry.

Packaging labels: generally include plastic bottles, Tetra Pak bricks, Tetra Pak pillows and other packaging.

(2) Pasteurized milk

Pasteurized milk usually refers to milk that is heated to 75℃~80℃ and sterilized for 10~15 seconds, instantly killing pathogenic microorganisms. It is non-sterile filling, but its bacterial content will not pose a threat to health.

Advantages and disadvantages: The taste and flavor are closer to that of raw milk, the nutritional value is not much different from fresh milk, the loss of B vitamins is only about 10%, but some physiologically active substances in milk may be inactivated.

Shelf life and storage conditions: The shelf life is 7 to 15 days, and no longer than 16 days. The shelf life is short and has requirements for storage conditions, generally 2°C to 6°C.

Packaging labels: generally plastic bags, glass bottles, fresh house and other packaging.

(3) Fresh milk

Fresh milk refers to freshly squeezed, unpasteurized pure milk, which contains antibacterial active substances such as lysozyme.

Advantages and disadvantages: This type of milk does not need to be heated. It is not only nutritious, but also retains some trace physiologically active ingredients in milk. However, compared with the above two types of milk, raw milk is the most expensive.

Shelf life: Can be stored at 4°C for 24 to 36 hours.

Storage conditions In addition: Fresh milk should be immediately placed in a cool place, preferably in the refrigerator.

(2) Do not expose milk to sunlight or light. Sunlight and light will destroy several vitamins in milk and also cause it to lose its aroma.

(3) When placing milk in the refrigerator, keep the bottle cap closed to prevent other odors from entering the milk.

(4) Pour the milk into a cup, teapot or other container. If not finished, cover the lid and put it back in the refrigerator. Do not pour it back into the original bottle.

(5) Excessive cooling also has adverse effects on milk. When milk is frozen into ice, its quality suffers. Therefore, milk should not be frozen, just refrigerate it.

Pure milk has a high protein content and is rich in nutrition. Drinking pure milk regularly is very good for our body, especially for children and the elderly. They should drink pure milk every day. We should also pay attention to the shelf life of pure milk. When purchasing, we should choose milk with a good date. Expired milk is not good for our body.
