Stir-fried chestnuts in an electric pressure cooker

Stir-fried chestnuts in an electric pressure cooker

Although chestnuts are delicious, they have a disadvantage: they are very difficult to fry. They require a long time of boiling or stir-frying to be fully cooked. The sugar-fried chestnuts sold on the street have sand and stones added to them in order to make them cook quickly. If you make chestnuts at home and want to shorten the preparation time, you can use a pressure cooker to fry the chestnuts. So how long does it take to fry chestnuts in an electric pressure cooker?

How long does it take to cook chestnuts in a pressure cooker?

The amount of water depends on the number of chestnuts. Generally, don't add too much, just a little is enough to keep the bottom of the pot moist. It will be enough for five minutes. When the chestnuts are cooked, the water will dry up, and then you can add some sugar. When steam starts to come out, reduce the heat to low. Shake the pan more often during the heating process to ensure even heating and prevent it from sticking to the pan. It's only about five minutes, the time is not absolute. If you really can't get it right, just open the lid and check, and fry again if it's not cooked.

How to fry chestnuts in a pressure cooker

1. Wash the chestnuts and cut a cross on the top with scissors, making sure to cut the chestnut skin.

2. Put the cut chestnuts into the pressure cooker, add a spoonful of oil and a spoonful of sugar, turn on medium heat, stir-fry, put your hand over the pressure cooker, when you feel the heat, cover the pressure cooker without adding a valve, and cook on medium-low heat.

3. Hold the handle of the pressure cooker and gently shake it to make the chestnuts roll in the pot. Shake for about 5 seconds and stop for half a minute. After a while, the aroma of chestnuts will waft out. At the beginning, the frequency of shaking can be less, and the frequency of shaking should be higher in the later stage. Fry until you hear the crackling sound of chestnuts, then continue to fry for one or two minutes and it will be done.

4. Pour out the chestnuts while they are still hot. Do not keep them in the pot. It is best to place them in a breathable container, otherwise the condensed water will affect the taste of the chestnuts.

Cooking Tips

1. The chestnuts must be cracked, otherwise they will explode due to the heat expansion.

2. The pressure cooker does not have a pressure valve.

3. Don’t put too many chestnuts in at one time. Just enough to cover the bottom of the pot.

4. Shake the chestnuts several times during the stewing process to ensure that the chestnuts are heated evenly.

5. Don’t add too much sugar, as the surface of the chestnuts will become black and ugly. Also don't use a pressure cooker that's too good, as it's difficult to clean.
